Daelemans to Host a New Series on PBS
By Kathleen Daelemans

Last year, we shot a pledge special for PBS, Cooking Thin & Loving Food with Chef Kathleen. This year, we're launching a new series! My new show, Just Be Licious, Just Be Quick! is a weekly, 30-minute program that makes it easy to cook super-healthy, delicious meals for the whole family.

In each half hour show, we'll provide you with meals for a week! All you need to do is to sit back and relax. When the show's over, you'll be able to download all of the recipes, complete shopping lists and even a prep list! Episodes of Just Be Licious, Just Be Quick! will feature:

  • Kit Meals!
A Kathleen Daelemans signature—Kit Meals are go-together ingredients that when combined, comprise an easy meal.

  • Five Minute Meals!
Each show will feature one meal that can be prepared from scratch in five minutes.

  • Morph Meals!
Each show will feature several meals that are the result of simple, planning-ahead techniques and creative ways to disguise leftovers so viewers don't come home from work everyday feeling "forced" to make a choice between cooking from scratch and calling for carryout.

  • A Star*licious Minute!
One minute tips and ideas for making life-in-the-kitchen a little easier. Safety, cooking and kitchen fashion advice broken down into 60 seconds...

You Ought to Be In Pictures!
We're creating a brand new series—you and me. Right now, Just Be Licious, Just Be Quick! is in pre-production—a fancy way of saying, Help! My house is a mess, I have 26 shows to write and the crew will be here to start shooting in a couple of weeks! Because there's never a question in my mind about who I work for (you, the viewer) I want to know what you want to see on screen. I can't incorporate what you don't tell me so click on the link and don't hold back!

About the Series...
Daelemans was chosen to become head chef of one of the world's most luxurious spas, The Grand Wailea on the island of Maui. One problem: she weighed 205 pounds and was a size 22—not exactly an advertisement for the joys of low-fat eating. But Kathleen wasn't about to give up her love of food, and she set out to create a cuisine she could be proud of. Her ground rules were simple. Every dish had to satisfy. Pleasure must rule. No one should have to weigh or measure food. And the "D" word was banned—unless the "D" stood for outrageously delicious.

Spa guests, Hollywood movie stars, recording artists, sports figures and supermodels flocked to the restaurant's tables. Critics from The New York Times, Esquire, Food & Wine, Bon Appetite, and The Los Angeles Times raved. Kathleen herself lost seventy-five pounds.

Now, in her new series, Just Be Licious, Just Be Quick!, Chef Kathleen Daelemans shares her sassy philosophy and the secrets of her weight-loss success story with viewers while giving them the tools they need to make healthy changes for life. Daelemans wows viewers by whipping up a week's worth of meals in each show! "If I can prepare five meals in twenty-five minutes, the whole world can," says Daelemans, "Dinner doesn't need to be Thanksgiving hard."

When asked in a recent interview about her new show and whether or not "health" is still relevant in the world of cooking shows, Daelemans flashed her signature smile, "If I told you I could show you how to get five-minute-meals on the table and I could show you how to stretch two fast recipes into five complete midweek meals and I could show you how to make dishes for easy entertaining that were as delicious as any you'd pay top dollar for at Balthazar or Chez Panisse, would you join me in the kitchen?"

"97 million Americans are either overweight or obese. That's relevant. But people aren't thinking about their weight when they want to be entertained in front of the television. They're looking to relax and escape. So we're going to help them do that. We're going to entertain them."
