I am just loving this new site! Reading about the cholesterol tips hit home for me. I have joined the boards again with high cholesterol and a will for it to go away! I get a lot of encouragement and good old fashioned "know how" when I skip into the boards. You all have great tips and terrific food suggestions. Keep up all your good work! You are mentors to us all out there. Pam
Hi there, Pam! My doctor was threatening to put me on cholesterol-lowering drugs and I didn't want to go on them (not only because of potential liver damage but because my mother had an odd reaction to them and my medical history follows hers SO closely). I changed my way of eating and got back to exercising regularly last summer and I've lowered my total cholesterol 69 points and vastly decreased my "bad" cholesterol.
My doctor says that it's not always possible to lower it ENOUGH through diet and exercise alone. With my family history, she told me not to get my hopes up, so she was really surprised when I was able to lower it that much that quickly. I'm finally in the normal range!
Rest of Summer Goals: 1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week. 2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week. 3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were! 4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.
