Hi,
I am back from skiing. I had the MOST wonderful time!! I got to ski 4 days, and got to ski my absolute favorite day of the week… Monday. The weather was fantastic - sunny and 45 degrees. I thought about all of you a LOT.
KD had posted questions about Energy Bars and eating in restaurants right before I left. I ate 1 energy bar and 4 dinners in restaurants… so those posts and questions were fresh in my mind.
But mostly, I am so grateful for every homework assignment that went, “What are your exercise excuses? Post your excuses and your exercise plans for this week. Check back here and be accountable.” or “How many times are you eating out? Make your grocery list and post your meals for the week.” or “What are you going to weigh on January 2nd? Make a commitment to end the holidays at the same weight”. I still can not believe the difference regular exercise and being thinner make.
I skied 4 days and didn’t take any Advil at all until the last day. I used to take 4 “Vitamin I” (for Ibuprofen

) every 3-4 hours because my body ached so much - and that was skiing the green bunny hills and an occasional blue. Last weekend, I skied EVERY groomed or skier packed run on the whole mountain - and alternated between blue and black runs . You can see a trail map at
http://www.mtrose.com/index.php - I didn’t ski “The Chutes” or "the bumps". I’m not suicidal. But people asked me if I had skied the chutes… so I must look like I’m capable and in good enough shape to do so… or maybe I look crazy

… Since I’d have to be crazy to ski “The Chutes”…
I only took the fast chairlifts, so it was up…down…up…down…up….down all day long. I used to stick to the slower lifts, because I really needed the time to rest on the slow chairs. My knees and legs feel fine. The only thing that hurt was my left foot. Saturday and Sunday were REALLY crowded and I think that I was nervously “clenching” my feet in some weird attempt to hold on to my skis… so the muscles in my feet hurt on Sunday night… and that is my only ache.
I was up at 8,200 - 9,700 ft elevation and didn’t even get winded on the “flats” where you have to skate and pole along. I remember back 40 lbs ago and carrying my skis, poles and stuff from the car, putting on my boots and shuffling over to the lift at 9am and being totally and completely exhausted and the day hadn’t even started!
So thank you all. I would never had kept to a regular exercise routine with out the support (and prodding and friendly competition!) on the board. I'd still be working on that last 20 lbs without you all!
