Something struck me as I was reading this week's weigh-in thread. People post that they're "in range". What range is that - personal, official, other? I've noticed posters (not thinking of anyone in particular here!) may say they're "at the upper end" one week, then the next week they're "at the lower end". Well, hereabouts the recommended range for individuals according to height and gender is quite wide: the WW range for someone my height is 46 to 58 kilos - a range of 12 kilos (that translates into roughly 25+ lbs!). Now if I'm at the lower end one week and at the upper end a week or two later, then that means a humongous weight gain in a very short time. So I'm wondering how you define your range.
I don't know how I'd define mine. Right now I just want to get below the official upper range and see how I feel about that.

My range is a personal mind game. I keep it low/strict/narrow, to keep me on my toes. That way, if I blow it by a couple three pounds, I still am in good shape.
I also agree that range should be a green/yellow/red thing, rather than just green/red.

for those of us who do not weigh ourselves (like me), i know i am "in range" when my jeans still fit comfortably.
Goals: 1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire. 2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy. 3. One word 2008: courage 4. Eat slow and mindfully.

Like the other posters, I have a personal range that is 5 pounds from the low end to the high.
Once I go above my high number, I buckle down and am quite strict with my food until I'm back down. I psychologically prefer to be closer to the bottom or mid point of my range. I feel like I have some wiggle room for an extra indulgence that way.
summer 7 challenge goals: - Meditate every day - Start the day with positive imagery and self talk Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
My range is strictly personal. Right now my range is anywhere between 210 and 214...I know it's only four pounds difference, but that keeps me very close to my plan. When I reach my goal or 150, WW will give me five lbs up before I have to start paying again. But I picked 150, even though it was high and still carries a high BMI because I knew it was something that I could stick to. My age, and health require something that I can do just that stay within a range. According to insurance charts, docs charts, etc., I should be 110 and 115 for my height, there is NO way I can stay within that at my age. Don't know if that makes any sense, but I think range has something to do with what your own goals are for yourself and how you can maintain that weight without starving yourself.
Summer Challenge Goals:
1. Get out of the house and in the pool four days a week. 2. Schedule meals a week at a time. 3. five fruits and vegetables a day, along with water.

If a picture is worth a thousand words... Here would be my weight 6 weeks into this holiday season.
I consider anything in the green or yellow "in range". (And even though, I'm in the yellow today... I went potty this am after weighing in and marking the chart in ink.)
This is a really good article on maintaining within a 3 lb range:
NOBODY stays one number. Most people are fine with a range of 3-4 lbs although a few people do retain more and fluctuate as much as 10lbs. This isn’t license to yo-yo 10 lbs of FAT! just so that I don‘t freak out every time I retain fluid.
But I also don't want to dismiss every gain with, "I ate ______ and I'm sure that I'm retaining fluid". And if/when I cross over into the red... I take action and go back into losing mode.
I would take "in range" to mean a personally set range. For my height, body type-to go by a government or insurance standard-my range goes from like 127-154. That is a HUGE difference. From what I gather reading here, those who post "in range", have picked a number at the top of their range where if they go above that number they are feeling uncomfortable in their clothes and have probably gone off plan and need to cut back and at the lower end of the range would be where they feel comfortable but it is not so low that they have difficulty maintaining. I am so far out of any range right now that I can only answer this question from an outside view.
