UGH! The best laid plans of mice and men. We plan ahead to not overindulge at the Holiday party, and then for some reason, when we (some of us...ehm, ME) see the beautiful buffets and the alcohol is flowing, our plans fly out the window.

I did it last night. ACK! And I'm paying for it today. How do you recover and move on?

My plan is:
1. Drink lots of water to releave the hangover.
2. Don't dwell on past mistakes, you can't change the past.
3. Eat better, starting today (once food sounds good that is.)
4. Get out and move. (Once moving sounds like an option again.)
5. Learn from my mistake, and don't do this at the next Holiday party, it just isn't worth it.

In specific, everything you listed, Dawn. In general, the ol' brush-yourself-off-and-get-back-on-the-horse thing. For me, the longer I allow myself to stay off the horse (or the wagon, whatever metaphor you choose hehe), the more I WANT to stay off the horse. It's imperative for me, when I fall off, to get back on lickety split! Get right back into those good behaviors and back on plan.

Personal Healthy Habits Challenge - 10/1 to 12/31/08:
1. Exercise: Get back to consistently working out 3-5 X week.
2. Food: Get back to consistently preparing healthy lunches for the week with increased veg servings.
3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.

I wonder how many of us plan to fall down? I am sure not many decide tonight I am going to blow this whole healthy thing out the window. I think I creeps up on us, grabs us when we are not looking and then devours our plan to stick with our plan to eat and live healthy.

How do I recover? I give myself permission to have made the mistakes. I do not kick myself around the block, that hurts way too much. I get up in the morning, take a shower, put my clothes on and move on to todays plan. I journal what it was that I did that could have been a better choice for me. I write a different ending; and promise myself to make healthier choices next time. I firmly believe that we have the ability to make the healthiest choices at all time in all situations. If I remember to do that....90% of the time, I don't have to worry about recovery.

Hang in there, it's only three weeks till Jan. 1....start over each day and make it a good one.

It's never too late to get it right.

All the same five that Dawn listed - especially, the learning from previous mistakes.

Fruits and vegs. If I can focus on getting 5+ fruits and vegs, it tends to keep me on track the next day.
