Toddlers come out to play!!

How is your Toddler Within doing?

Is s/he whiney? Throwing Tantrums? Being quiet?

Does you Toddler have a name? Does s/he want to post?

Check out www.theBratFactor.com , if you have no idea of what I’m talking about.

And…OK…Call me crazy and Sally Fields can play me when they make the movie, “Sybil, the weight loss years“… but I’ve found other “people” inside of me who both help with my weight loss/maint and others who hinder my loss/maint.

I’ve Super Grocery Cart Woman… she is sort of like the super hero cartoon on the www.SavingDinner.com site. She is the world’s healthiest shopper… but she doesn’t really have too much moderation skills. In my All or Nothing self… she is the ALL Healthy all the time and will do crazy things like buy TWO watermelons because they are on sale. She helps with weight most of the time… but she can also go over board with the healthy stuff…

And I’ve got Super Nanny… she keeps the toddler in check… and of all the “people” inside of me… she is the best with moderation.

I’ve got a couple more… but it is late and I’m tired.
:~)

So use this thread to let your Toddler Within post… Or tell us about other “personalities” that help/hinder your weight efforts. Or keep score today... Me 2 - Toddler 0. Or fill out a Toddler progress report...

Here is a sample:

I dragged me and the preschool within onto the elliptical and did 31.5 mins today.

I found another “person” within.

The negotiator or the Toddler Advocate…

For those of you who have taught (or grew up in a family or went to grammar school….) Often if you correct some child A, some other kid B will appoint him or herself Counsel for the Defense and will start explaining and justifying the actions of child A to get them out of trouble.

My most vivid recollection of this is that I had this class of 6th graders. I had had them in band since 4th grade so they knew me and I knew them and they had all been together since kindergarten and were the talkyest bunch and had been driving me crazy for weeks. This kid, Zach started dismantling his clarinet and removing all the screws and was really destroying his instrument. I was at my wits end and decided to make an example of Zach and send him to the principal’s office. His friend Tara jumps to his defense with the most articulate closing argument explaining why he was doing that and his troubled childhood, and his troubled clarinet, and he does not deserve to be sent up the river to the principals office, etc. etc.

I’ve got this baby lawyer inside of me. My Toddler within was screaming and carrying on this morning. “NO NO NO!!! Don‘t WANNA exercise!!!! NOOOOO!!!!” and I could also hear The Negotiator is calmly explaining, “Don’t make her go to the garage and exercise. It is cold out there and it is so dreary and depressing. Plus it is only Monday… you have the whole week to exercise… Actually, today is a good day for an extra piece of toast and no exercise. Doesn‘t that sound good? Three pieces of toast AND jam and real butter, too… and no exercise. I think that is a good plan… don‘t you think so?”

I can actually, hear Tara’s voice saying this to me… “Mrs. Whitney… don’t make the toddler exercise… some toast will make her happy and that is sooooo much easier than 30 mins on the elliptical. Don’t you think?”

I bribed them all with coffee and a Sudoku game if they exercise.

Adult 1, Toddler(s) 0

Yay for my team!

(PS... I've never had another class like that one...Smiler

My inner toddler is much more of a whiner than and temper tantrum thrower.

Friday night the tired cranky toddler won the argument of "I don't want to cook. I'm sleepy and tired. Let's order food." LUCKILY, whoever it is that keeps the toddler somewhat in line bargained that "Yes we can order, but you're going to order steamed chicken and broccoli." To which the toddler replied "BUT I want sesame chicken, or regular chicken and broccoli and lo mein and fried rice and crab rangoon...."

Tired cranky toddler got to order food in, but she was stuck with steamed chicken and broccoli, which actually tasted pretty good with teriyaki sauce on it.

my toddler is 3 1/2 and doesnt give a rats ass bout punctuation or spelling or manners.

shes either WANNA or DOAN WANNA.

wanna means i want it now and im gonna get it now just watch me.
doan wanna means no chores no rules no moderation or exercise no nuthin. means entitlement royalty and why cant i. just tell me why i cant.

then theres the tired adult person who knows she has to do stuff but has lost the power to make it fun.

when the toddler is in a playful mood shes funny and brings happiness and giggles to everybody. problem is she only has to look around her to see chores and that makes her retreat into doan wanna.

i suppose there are others but right now toddler says wanna sleep.

Yikes, my Cookie Monster toddler came out today. We were sitting in a fairly boring workshop and when we were let out on break there were cookies to devour. I normally don't eat them, but they had coconut type chewy yummy cookies which I had 4 of. The Cookie Monster loved it while the health nut in me was screaming "NOOOOOOOOO".

The water patrol in me did very well today, so not all was lostSmiler

My brat, Ashely, is a procrastinator. She'll do it later, "in a minute" and thus things never get done.
She spends way too much time on the computer, there is always something that has to be read, typed or looked at again.
Later,

Ashley the brat for cathy cobismom

It's never too late to get it right.

Toddler ME is my inner toddler. But she's pretty much in check at the moment.

My "gentle laura" persona is warring right now with my "perfectionist laura" persona. Last night was quite the battle between PL, who wanted to spend the night doing 19 more things (on top of the 10 I did) before I head north this afternoon after work at the library, while GL wanted to lay on the couch and hunker under a blanket and just watch TV. GL won. I even went to bed early!!!

PMS Laura got her french fries and a piece of custard pie (among other things) yesterday, but real Laura got a salad for dinner. PMS Laura got even, though, with a little bit of pasta while Perfectionist Laura was cooking up four different things.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.

Sounds like we all have many different personalities going on inside. How normal is that? Just kidding. I think it is compeletely normal.

Here are some of mine:

The "I am bored" toddler...this toddler used to make much more noise. She wanted dh to go out with her more and see and do things because she didn't want to get lost. Now she is happy to do things, but takes a little more planning.

The "procratinator" toddler. She really likes to come into play when she is overwhelemed. But, FLY lady and her crew has helped with this because little FLYs throughout the day help.

The "go-getter" toddler can be dangerous. Sometimes I just don't want to cook or I want to go out and do something new. She is very good friends with " i am bored" toddler. I really try to budget my time wisely.

These are my 3 BIG toddlers. I really work every day to find a balance for everyone and seems to be working quite nicely now.

My toddler within was very well behaved on my trip to Florida because she was getting to eat out a lot (breakfast was at home every day, but there was only 1 at-home lunch and 1 at-home dinner while there--my bro and SIL don't seem to cook much). And on her birthday, my toddler got filet mignon, au gratin potatoes and shared a decadent chocolate brownie dessert. She was in heaven! Luckily, I was in control for all breakfasts and some lunches and dinners or else we would have come back 4 pounds up instead of weighing the same as when we left!

Miss "I don't want to bother anyone" was in control at the Jacksonville airport when I was meeting with a Sparkfriend before flying out. I had budgeted time for breakfast before leaving bro's house for the drive to the airport but just ran out of time and it didn't happen. Then, as soon as I'd checked my bag, Lauren and her husband were already there so instead of saying, while having coffee (them) and water (me) at the airport lounge, "Excuse me, but I haven't eaten and am just going to take a minute to find something not too unhealthy to eat...I'll be right back." I sat there and talked to them for 45 minutes until I just had enough time to pee and grab & gobble a hot dog on the way to my gate. It was a stupid move and I should have taken the extra 2 minutes up front with them to get myself nourished before I got out-of-control hungry.

Finally, the toddler was in control when I got home from the airport. I tried to talk the friend who picked me up from the airport into going to lunch, my treat, but he'd already eaten so I ended up going to Wendy's (didn't eat healthy).

I don't really think I have a toddler but she is more like and evil teenager! There are often battles between the teenager(who HATES TO CLEAN and does not want any boundaries) and Annie All or Nothing(amazing how much power this teen has over All or Nothing). The all-or-nothing has been in hiding for a while now, so has that bratty teen. She did rear her ugly head last night-she just could not say no to the coconut ice cream-God she's a brat! I think I have my alter egos safely tucked away in hibernation, at least for now. They occasionally pop up and I beat them off with a stick and they run and hide again. They all hate the gym but I make them go anyway.
