DS just came home from his first class of the new year. The first words out of his mouth are, "It's the wrong Physics book."
Now…the physics book at the book store was going to cost (ready for this?) $150 for a used book. I found it on eBay for $60. Of course, I ordered the book on eBay. So, soon I will have a $60 book I don't need and still have to find the proper book - which the book store does not have in stock! The prof didn't know this until today???!!!
This from the place of higher education that is supposed to help make my son a responsible adult?
I had to do some research on the new book listed on the syllbus. My original search showed a Volume 1 and a Volume 2 with no mention of either on the syllabus. After a few minutes I found a one volume edition, got the ISBN, copied that, pasted it onto Dealoz.com and found a book for $75. (Not too bad). Ordered it. Paid for it through PayPal. Went to a different page on my 'puter and ds comes downstairs shouting, "The book that we bought by mistake wasn't really a mistake after all. It's the book we're using."
I think I scared him back upstairs with my response.
I really do have a head-ache. I don't think this situation helped.
If you have the information, I can see if mine is the right one. I could send (we can negotiate a price) you mine if it is.
And I feel for you. My engineering textbook would have cost me $200 if I'd bought it at the bookstore.
As far as the university's supposed teaching people to be responsible adults, it's a common problem. I've been feeling the same way about my school. Most recently, ie yesterday, I realized that I go to a univ. whose parking department is full of knuckleheads. They closed all the entrances to the largest parking deck on campus except for 1--which also happens to be the same driveway as the construction vehicles building around said parking deck are using. It took me 30 min. to get out of the parking deck yesterday.
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
