I just checked it out today and was wondering if anyone here has read it. What did you think?

Didn't read the book, but just got home from seeing the movie. I found it rather confusing and think I would have enjoyed it more if I HAD read the book. Also, Tom Hanks is about the only one in the movie who speaks "Americanized" English. Everyone else in the movie has a French, English or indeterminate Eastern European accent and I found them (esp. Sophie) hard to understand at times, esp. when voices were low (which was a lot with all the secretive stuff going on in the story).

I'm sure the casting of the two leads was more about choosing big names than about picking people who looked like the descriptions in the book. I seem to remember that Sophie was supposed to have a softer, "Goddess" quality about her but in the movie the woman who played her was the typical skinny actress. Beautiful, and very talented, but not what I pictured.

Also, Tom Hanks has been in a lot of movies directed by Ron Howard, and maybe he likes working with him so much that he doesn't care if he's 100% right for the part.

I agree, Kat, they did a good job with it. I went in with low expectations because of the bad reviews, but other than a couple of small things I thought it was well-done.

My friends and I agreed that Tom Hanks wasn't quite hot enough to play the leading man -- we all pictured the lead character as sexier when reading the book. The acting was fine, but there didn't seem to be much chemistry between him and his (very much younger) costar.

I went and saw the DaVinci Code on Friday...the first time I have gone to a movie all by myself!

I thought they did a pretty good job with the plot. So much to cram in! If I hadn't read it I would have thought it was even better...but that's how it always isSmiler

I loved it and couldn't put it down. Now I am hesitant to see the movie, even if Tom Hanks is in it. Afraid it won't live up to my idea of the book. It does take some being able to jump around and be left hanging in places. But it gets tied up on a nice bundle in the end...sort of. Definitely NOT light reading, though.

It's never too late to get it right.

I haven't gotten to page 20 yet. I don't know if I'm just not in the mood to read right now or am not really interested in the book. From what I've been reading on here, I should keep on going and give it a fair try. It probably isn't helping that I hear my crochet hook and new yarn calling my name, "Gail, you know you need to work on your brother's wedding gift. October will be here before you know it."
Oh what to do what to do...lol. Smiler

I read it shortly after it came out. I was thrilled with the descriptions in the opening pages which I quickly knew meant da Vinci's man (the curator laying on the floor).

Last year, I finally read Angels and Demons and thought that was far more outlandish, and more deserving of the controvercy which is now surrounding the da Vinci Code's movie.

I just read that Angels and Demons is going to be made into a movie. No word on weather Tom Hanks will reprise his role.

It isn't something I would normally have read, but I listened to it on tape and it was fabulous!

I try different genres on tape when it doesn't catch my reader's mind....does that make sense?

I remember my sister saying for about the first 45-50 pages she thought she wasn't going to like it and then after that she couldn't put it down.

I didn't exactly dislike it... but I did think it predictable.

I also thought some parts were sort of drawn out too far and boring.

But it was an ok read.

I haven't read it-for some reason I never seem to read what is on the bestseller list, I go for the "off the beaten track" books, the ones that aren't usually out on display. BUT-with all the talk about this book, and all the controversy-I think I am going to read it.

I love it too. I couldn't put it down.

After I read it, I went back and read Angels and Demons and liked it even better.

If you haven't started Da Vinci Code, you may want to read Angels and Demons first so you go in "order" but it won't ruin Da Vinci if you just read that first.

We bought it about a month ago, but DH is reading it now. I'll read it when he's done. (He doesn't get through books to quickly though...)
