If you had to make up a cd with 11 songs... one song from each decade from the last 100 years... beginning in 1910... What songs would you choose?
My ds literally had this for extra credit history homework (I think his teacher might be looking for some free tunes for her iPod!) He came running home at lunch on Friday, saying, "I need to burn a "songs of the century CD" for extra credit. Tell me songs that you know".
We/I came up with:
1910's I wonder who's kissing her now (we Googled WWI songs) 1920's The Charleston 1930's Button up your Overcoat 1940's Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy 1950's Hound Dog 1960's Ring of Fire (he had this Johnny Cash song in his iPod) 1970's Birdland (Weather Report in his iPod) 1980's Thriller 1990's Hit me Baby, one more time 2000's Who let the Dogs Out Today: Stronger (Kanye West also in his iPod)
I asked... can you really turn in "homework" with music with an explicit language warning? He said, "Yeah, it is ok... she swears".
In contrast, the state reminds me of "Ohio", by Neil Young.

ackkk!!! Turn of the century ear worm... Beautiful Ohio has been stuck in my head for about 4 hours now. I've never lived in Ohio. Never even been to Ohio, but know enough snippits of the song to be humming/singing about it for half the day.
I know you've already finished the assignment, but here's what I found that satisfies my musical tastes...

I'll always be grateful to my parents for letting me stay in choir for so many years...having that kind of broad exposure to music makes it so much easier to appreciate (though not always like) just about everything out there, and gave me the skills to articulate what I do and don't like about music.

Challenge Goals: *10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week *Gym time twice a week *Socialize at least once every two weeks.
Dd is getting me an iPod shuffle ($48) for Mother's Day and load it up for me so I will have something to listen to while I am working out at the Y.
We went to get it this weekend but the WalMart we were at was sold out. She went online to see what store had them and most of the stores are sold out. The sales person said they may have some more in a week but even their warehouse is out. Are they really that much in demand?
1. do 4 laps on walking track without "resting" 2. do 1 mile (17laps) in 20 minutes (3miles per hour)

It was kind of cool. It was expensive, though… he had some music in his iPod… but we had to download $6 worth of music. We’ve only been able to burn CD’s since March. If he had gotten this assignment sooner… he’d have to be more organized and figure out another way to burn a CD or get extra credit.

My kid has the most diverse music in his iPod. Music that he has played in band… Holst’s first and second suites; Birdland from jazz band; music from movies he’s seen - Johnny Cash, Chicago (the play, not the band), Star Wars, Little Miss Sunshine; YoYo Ma playing Bach… because he heard some kid at music camp playing cello… HATED band camp.. I had “Button Up Your Overcoat” in MY iPod. It was on some CD of “Oldies Xmas Music” or “Classic Xmas” or something like that. It is in my “Ski” play list, that and 269 arrangements of Let it Snow and Winter Wonderland. (I really don’t have 269 arrangements of Let it Snow, but I do have a few which my sister thinks is so weird... I think that her iPod is filled with Grateful Dead-like bands that I've never heard of.)
My kid initially loaded my iPod for me with his music… and skiing to Holst is… interesting. And he put The Frey How to Save a Life, for me to listen to, should I ever get another ride in the ski patrol sled again...
