I hope that everyone in the path of Wilma is making plans to be safe and stay that way!
Please know that I'm thinking about you all and praying that the hurricane weakens substantially.
My in-laws, sil and neice are all on the West coast of Florida in Naples and they're planning on evacuating. They don't want to take any chances with the baby (my neice).

Looks like we're heading down to Naples on Saturday. My in-laws said that there unit was fine and that there was minimal water damage. They have electricity and water and all the roads were already cleared. They didn't have any trouble getting gas or food and even said the beach erosion wasn't that bad by them.
I'll be off line for a 8 days starting Saturday morning. Hope to come back to some good news from the rest of the folks on the board from Florida.

Originally posted by bgmiami: Bee, Pelican Bay is a beautiful area. When we visit Naples we usually stay at the Edgewater Beach which is on Gulfshore. I am sure it must be flooded. Such a shame. We've also stayed at the Inn at Pelican Bay on the corner of Vanderbilt Beach Rd and Tamiami Trail.
By the way, my son & DIL live in Strongsville, which isn't too far from Medina. We are from
Orange Village, on the east side of Cleveland (next to Beachwood and Shaker Heights).
Just heard on the news that out of 900,000 homes in Dade County only 100,000 have power restored. Their are now only 5 gas stations with power and working pumps between Key Largo and Palm Beach County. Lines are enormous. 98% of Broward County and a large percent of Palm Beach County is without power. Not only are the power lines down, but the infrastructure is damaged and needs to be repaired. Both counties do not have safe water and are under boil water orders. Temperatures will stay cool until the weekend and then the heat and humidity are forecast to return.
We are so fortunate that we have power. I am so grateful.
I hope Mel is OK.
We heard that the flood waters have all receded in Naples but there was wide spread beach erosion/damage.
We're still waiting to hear from my in-laws on what the damage is in their unit and building. They did reach their building manager yesterday who said that many of the units had water infiltrate in through the window seals. They also got mixed reports about the power situation so we're on pins and needles waiting news.
On the other coast, the situation in Palm Beach where my grandparents live sound much worse. They were told it could be 4 weeks before they have their power because of damage to the two main power substations there.
I have a feeling that my aunt will go down and bring them back up North to her place (my mom just had foot surgery and is immobile so can't go down right now).
The next time you are up in Ohio visiting your son, let me know and maybe we can get together for lunch or coffee : )

I used to live on Immokalee road off I75 in Naples many moons ago, Regent Park. Actually 10 years ago. I loved it there. My parents have gone home to Fort Myers where there is still no power and my friends and their kids in Weston, Ft Lauderdale are on their way here for the week because they have no power or water. The water treatment plant has no power. She also has lost her entire screen cage and some windows and roof tiles. The schools are closed so they will be staying with me. Glad you didn't have any injuries. Fort Myers and Naples didn't get quite the beating that Miami and Lauderdale did. My parent's house seems to be ok. My cousin's restaurant got quite a bit of damage so he will be closed for a while.

Our friends live in Naples, in Berkshire Lakes off of I75 and Radio Road. Their condo is still without power. They had evacuated to Sarasota. Other friends who live off of Imokolee Rd and I75 got there power back last night. I understand everthing west and south of Tamiami Trail is a disaster. I heard the water surge went several blocks inland and that Gulfshore Drive (and the beautiful hotels and homes along that street) is flooded with several feet of water.
Thanks so much for the info. My inlaws live in Northern Naples in Pelican Bay. Hopefully they faired OK.

We lost 5 panels on our pool screen and our landscaping is a total disaster, but otherwise the house wasn't damaged and we are fine. I think it was much worse up in Palm Beach county where Mel lives.
There are only 2 gas stations between Dade & Palm Beach counties that have power and can pump gas. There is plenty of gas, but the pumps can't work without electricity.
But we are alive and unharmed and that is what's most important.
Mel and other buddies please check in when your power gets turned on.
So glad to hear that you are OK. My grandparents are in the Palm Beach area and there roof blew off their condo. Thankfully no one was hurt but there was lots of damage.
We're still waiting to hear the report out of Naples. My inlaws evacuated and are due back tomorrow but haven't been able to reach anyone to determine if the power has been restored or not.

Does anyone know if Tampa is getting hit by the hurricane? It just hit me that my brother in law lives in Tampa with his girlfriend, and they are expecting a baby. I can't find his phone number to call to see if they are ok, or if they are even being affected?
Can anyone tell me if Tampa is in the path of Wilma or not?
I'm still praying for you all!
Blessings,
Lori

Here in the Bay area, it is not too bad. Mostly strong wind and rain. Maybe 40-50 mph. South of us in Naples and Fort Myers is much worse. They had 125 mph wind. But Miami is taking the strongest hit from the southern part of the storm. They already have quite a bit of flooding. My parents are with us, they live in Fort Myers. They are staying here till it is over. Supposedly by this afternoon we will actually have some sunshine. Thanks for all the prayers.

I'm soooo relieved that dh's family evacuated as they are in Naples.
We have airline tickets to go down on Saturday but we'll see what happens and how long it takes to get things up and running again.

Barbara - I'm with you!! The waiting is so hard at this point. We have our shutters up and moved everything into the garage. Basically, just waiting for the power to go out (because you know it will!!). Hope all is well with you and that by the time it gets to us, it will be a minimal storm and not much damage. My dad and his wife flew out this morning, so at least that made me feel better.

How are you all holding out? The waiting is killing us. We were going to evacuate north, but it was so hard to predict where the storm was going to hit that we decided to stay put. Our house made it through Hurricane Andrew, so it is very sturdily built. The shutters are up and we are waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop.
Wishing all fellow south Floridians a safe journey through this storm.

My inlaws left this morning and are going to family in GA to ride out the storm. They said that traffic on I-75 was already getting heavy. I'm so relieved that they left.
