I hate blueberries. Ew. They're slimy, they smell bad, and they ended up on a beautiful cheese tray I ordered at a fancy restaurant in Colorado. Everything else on the tray was fresh and delicious, so I figured I'd try them, and....wow! They were GOOD.
I still have issues with cooked blueberries, but I don't HATE blueberries. I think they're pretty darn good, in fact, especially when they're fresh!
Have you had this happen? Thought you hated something (like, oh, I don't know...exercise? cooking? blue cheese?), then realized you didn't? What changed?

I'll second that... and brussel sprouts. I got this little package of fancy-shmancy sea salt... and it is soooooo good with this salt. I don't know if this salt misses the sea and tries to recreate it in my body... because I retain about an ocean's worth of water the next day after eating it...
But I also like brussel sprouts. But you also have to eat them as soon as they come out of the oven or out of the pan. FAST.
Yes, right away is the best way to consume brussels!! I would think they would get soggy or gross during travel!!
As far as fennel, I like it, don't love it. KD's version-a little olive oil and some salt-OK, I like it but not a favorite!!

Don't send them to your friends for dinner co-op or take them to a pot luck. They don't travel well.

D-I NEVER wanted to try brussel sprouts. To me, they were these nasty, overcooked veggies that were flat out gross. But, if you trim them, cut them in half, toss with olive oil and salt/pepper and roast them, then top with a little red wine vinegar they are now one of my favorite veggies. I have to have the salt/pepper/olive oil and red wine vinegar combo or I don't like them much.

I refused to eat most greens (I'm not talking about lettuces) when I was a kid. Spinach was about it.
Now, I adore greens. I love collards & swiss chard. I still haven't tried turnip or mustard greens, but will get brave enough some day. I usually prefer them mixed into stuff, but I do eat them cooked either in chicken broth or with just a little bit of bacon for the most part.
Swiss chard I like chilled after steaming in pasta salad.
Still a no go on beans. I tried really hard to like chick peas, but the texture still caused their banning from my house. I did try (and love) dry roasted soy beans, though. Love the crunch, though. I've been putting them in salads in place of croutons.
As a kid, I loved brussel sprouts. Now not as much. I still do eat them occasionally, but they have to be pretty flavored for me to touch them anymore.
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
AH! I thought of something more recent that I hated in the past and came to enjoy (in some ways, anyhow)--black beans. I used to think they were just gross but, a few years back, Chili's added some new healthier menu option and when I ordered it, it came with a tiny bowl of black beans with salsa or pico de gallo mixed in. I found that I could enjoy black beans done that way and I've since gone on to use them a time or two in other things. I don't think I'll ever LOVE them, but I definitely at least will buy them or try them in restaurant meals now, where before I wouldn't.

I adore beans. I did not always like them. If i was on a desert island w/ only one food that would be it...and if I could only do on I still don't like cauliflower. I have a couple of foods that have gone the other way since I had a kid- which was 6 years ago. i just still don't like chicken. I couldn't stand it when I was pregnant. And even now I don't like it. I LOVE fresh red peppers. but when I was in college I opened a jar of red peppers and there was mold on the top. I still can't stand to think about that and one of the reasons that even fresh roasted peppers kind of gross me out. I constantly try new stuff. Last year i was in an CSA and that guaranteed that. This year I just keep picking up new stuff at the grocery.
Lima beans, raw brocolli, raw cauliflower, brussel sprouts, can't do it. But found in other things, they are great. I'd give them a try...but I can't do it alone.
It's never too late to get it right.

Brocolli and Cauliflower. I don't really know exactly when I started to like them and I don't know why I never ate them before. I guess because I was never exposed to them as a child.
When dd was little she liked brocolli so I gave it a try because I wanted to make it available to her but I never found a way to cook it that I liked.
I probably overcook my brocolli because if it is cooked I want it soft. I will eat it raw in a salad if it is in small pieces. I like to make mock mashed potatoes with the cauliflower and I like to chop both of them very small and add shredded carrots and fresh grated ginger and steam them.
I do know what changed and caused me to try them. Meeting KD has greatly improved the way dd & I both eat.

Lima beans and black eyed peas. I never had a good experience with either one. My mom never really served lima, but I would see on the lunch tray and not be happy.
With black eyed peas she would make every New Years day for good luck. Over the years she has tweaked how she makes them and they are much better.

I'll second the brussels sprouts. I still don't like the frozen ones or overcooked, but fresh and lightly steamed or sauted are really good, crunchy and sweet. The overcooked ones are still bitter little cabbages.

When I was a kid, I hated green bell peppers. YUCK--I found the flavor over-powering. When my Dad would make stuffed bell peppers, I'd eat the stuffing and leave the pepper. I didn't even know then that there was such a thing as red, yellow and orange bell peppers, so I just thought I hated bell peppers.
MANY years later, I had a non-green bell pepper (don't remember where/how/when) and I thought "WOW! These are nothing like green ones!" And now bell peppers are one of my favorite vegetables--just not the green ones.

Brussell sprouts. I don't really ever remember trying them, even as a kid. Just knowing what they looked like and what they smelled like was enough for me to pass. But, about a year ago, I was trying to eat low-carb. I was looking for a new veggie to try and I thought-I love cabbage-and these look like little baby cabbages, so they can't be that bad. I cleaned off the outer leaves, cut them in half, tossed them w/a little olive oil, salt, and pepper and roasted them in the oven. Topped w/some red wine vinegar-they were SOOOOO good and are now a weekly choice for me.
