Hey everyone. Well, I have a short work week because of our travel plans. But, I thought today I would do my work from home.

We have an upcoming event in early December. It is a FONDUE party. I think this is a great way to get people to interact and doing something new and fun.

I want to have 4 total fondue pots, since I really not anticipated more than at most 25 people there. So 2 will be cheese and the other 2 chocolate.

For the cheese I thought breads and veggies and for the chocolate have graham crackers, marshmellows, and fruits.

Anyone else have any fun ideas for this event? I kinda wanted to do a little game at each stations. Ideas? Smiler

There is an R.A. website filled with ideas for icebreakers:

Somewhere I recently heard about a personal trivia type Jeopordy game. You ask the people coming some questions ahead of time - stuff like where is the furthest you've ever travelled from the U.S.; what's your special talent; something that most people don't know about you, etc.... Then at the party, you play Jeopordy - "I traveled to Liberville, Gabon" and then your party goers try to guess who that person is.

As for food, this is no where near healthy but I've had oreos dipped in chocolate fondue and it was out of this world - pretzels work well too.

I went to a large baby shower and we played a "Who Am I?" kind of game.

Every person had the name of a famous person taped to their back. Every person in the room knew who I was, but I didn't know who I was if this makes sense.

Let's say I have Beethoven taped to my back, it was an easy way to start a conversations by going up to someone and saying, "Am I a man?" "Am I American?" "Am I dead?" I think that others could only answer Yes or No.

It was one of the better party games I've participated in and made it easy to talk to strangers in addition to the other small talk that happens at parties.
:~)

PS... I think she used name tags. You had a name tag on your front with your real name and another name tag on the back with your famous name when you walked in the door.

Thanks for all your feedback.

I am working with Hillel. If you aren't familar with that group it is the Jewish student organization.

Hmmm...well I think by saying 25 I am seeing more people than I think will come, but that is my safe number right now.

If you can get ahold of another fondue pot or two, you could also do herbed broth. The have that at the Melting Pot, and it is a nice way to have fondue without all the fat and calories.

Is there something you want to get out of the games other than entertainment? By that I mean, are the games ice breakers or a way to get to know the students better, or way for the students to get to know each other better...? Or just fun?

BTW, what student organization are you working with? I'm intrigued.

Hi Steph! Sounds fun. I'm sort of wondering about 2 pots of cheese for 25. I don't think you are going to be very happy with that ratio. Might want to think about doing all 4 pots and actually switching to chocolate instead of having them in at the beginning.

If you wanted, you could have different types of dippers at each fondue pot or different fondues in each pot to encourage people to wander among the pots. I was thinking about maybe some sort of word game at one of them.

BTW, apples and pears are awesome with the cheese. Cheesecake is really yummy in the chocolate but I don't know what your budget is.
