I live in overalls. I have all kinds of overalls. I have all colors of overalls. I do wear other clothes, but am most comfortable and myself in my overalls.

I started wearing them the year I turned a "0" number. Kind of like "I will wear purple when I am old" thing. Well, I will wear overalls.
That was 2 years ago....I have changed sizes, I have taken the overalls in. Moved buttons, put in different decorations,e tc. I look like a throw back to the 60's some days. But like my favorite sweats I have a favorite pair of overalls. They were my first. They were BIG --- size 26....

I put new buttons on them one month because I'd shrunk. I put ribbon across the top where the clasps used to be and I had to put buttons to shorten them. I took them in 3" one month and another 2" months later. I lived in those overalls above all others.

Well, when I washed a couple of weeks ago, I found a hole in the buns. The hole kept getting bigger with each washing, and no attempt at patching it would help, there is only so big a patch you can put on your butt without drawing too much attention; and my butt is big enough without drawing attention to the fact. So, yesterday, after they were clean, I cut the buttons off, cut the pockets off, cut the legs off (I make purses and bags out of demin) and gave my fav overalls a proper funeral. I wrapped the remnants in a grocery sack and tossed them into a firey pit. Cremation seemed appropriate.

I haven't been able to look for new overalls yet. I just can't bring myself to replace them.
So this fall, when they bring out the new shipment, I suppose I will have to break down and replace them....maybe sew a button on in memory. But what size? I have no clue, maybe by then a 12?

Good bye my friend.

It's never too late to get it right.

You have brought back memories of all different favorite clothes that I wore to shreds.

One of the first was my favorite Red Sweatshirt and tennies with the holes in the toes. I think I was 8 or 9 and owned them when I read Harriet the Spy. Smiler

I've often thought of doing the same thing for a few favorite pieces of clothing. I'm sorry for your loss. Wink

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
