My niece has been planning her college career since she has been a little girl. She is supposed to be moving into her dorm on August 23rd. Because of some very selfish decisions/spending, and procrastination on her parent's part, she is not going to be able to go to college. They told her this just this week. She is not able to get a loan without a co-signer and unfortunately no one in the family right now can do it. I am SO angry at my sister and her husband right now-I don't want to be but she would not be in this situation if they had done the right things-too much to explain here.
Please, please, I am asking for prayers that somehow, someway we can find the money she needs to go to school. She is heartbroken and very depressed right now.
I have been online all day searching websites, reading articles, etc. about loans and money available.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions please email me at jmariet70@comcast.net

Summer Challenge Goals: 1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week 2) Plan weekly menus
Okay, I know how happy I am for her to be going to school, but, she just called me to say goodbye because she leaves tomorrow AM. I broke down in tears. I can't believe my little niece is off to college. I am SO excited for her, but at the same time I am going to miss her terribly. I cannot even imagine what I will be like when dd leaves for college. I feel like she is one of my own!! I almost as much time with my niece as I have my own dd-she has been such a part of my life and now she is leaving. I am trying to focus on the positives-the city of Philadelphia has so many opportunities and it is a great city, but she still won't be 5 minutes away. More like an hour. Sorry for being a blubbering aunt and thanks for listening.

oh i love to hear about results like this! your niece must be determined to make it to college. i am so pleased for her! she is lucky to have you in her corner, jill.
Goals: 1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire. 2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy. 3. One word 2008: courage 4. Eat slow and mindfully.
Thanks to you all for your prayers and well wishes! I have great news!!! She will be moving into her dorm this Thursday! I'm not sure exactly what transpired since Friday but she told me that somehow they worked out a payment plan with the school, not sure if it is monthly or by semester but she is going and that is all that matters!!!

Originally posted by D in St Pete: Jill, I did all the thinking I could, and even put the boyfriend to it. Aside from his offer to "knock some sense" into your neice's parents (he's a real problem-solver, the boyfriend), we didn't have anything other than contacting the financial aid office at the school.
My boyfriend is the same-"knock some sense into them" attitude, LOL!!
I think that because she has to let Phil. University know tomorrow if she is not attending, she is going to have to A)take classes at a local state school and apply again for the winter term or B)find a job that will help her put away money and get a credit card to establish some credit so she can get her own loan.
I want to thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and emails. I promise to reply to the emails, I just haven't had the time.
It is an unfortunate situation, and it breaks my heart to see her hurting(my nieces and nephews are like my own kids-I am so close to all of them-and, they always call me "the cool aunt", LOL because I am the one who takes them places, and listens to them when their parents don't, and I have always tried to be a big part of their lives). It is a real wake-up call. My dd has four years left of school before college. Her dad qualifies for veterans benefits and I know their is money available there for college but I am now re-thinking my own savings and planning.
I have decided that Lauren will go to college. If not now, then in the winter or next fall. She has the drive and determination and she will succeed.
Thanks again to all of you for your support.
Oh, also, she has contacted the financial aid office at school, the FAFSA forms were filled out a while ago. She did qualify for some aid, but just not enough.

On the other hand, not going for a semester or two may give her a chance to get all HER monetary ducks in a row and get her college education without depending on anyone else, through grants, loans, and work-study programs, plus a year of saving under her belt. I know that's way easier to say as an adult than to hear when you're excited about college.
I hate that you and her are having to deal with this, but she's lucky to have someone like you on her side.
Challenge Goals: *10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week *Gym time twice a week *Socialize at least once every two weeks.
Oh Jill, how horrible. I'll be sending my prayers and positive thoughts for a new door to open so that your niece can realize her dream.
