I know, I'm just jumping in without properly "catching up", but honestly, I don't know that I could "catch up" with you all! I will read what I can each time I come to the board, but doubt that I will actually be able to "catch up" with everyone So, I hope you all don't mind if I just jump right in! The past few weeks I've been feeling the inner-urging to get back to a healthy lifestyle, and STAY THERE!!!!!!!!!! I'm not getting any younger! Yesterday was my 40th birthday, and I decided last night after reading the cards that my dd passed around at music camp for my friends to sign that I want to remain a "young 40", and I don't want to suffer the ill-effects of my weight and borderline high cholesterol. SO, I've recommitted myself, as of this morning, to a healthy lifestyle! I'm going to baby-step it, and will post my goals, triumphs, failures, etc here for you all to help me and encourage me
Thank you all for your friendship and support over the past several years! I GREATLY appreciate it, and wish I have been more faithful to return the "favor" to you all!
Ok....now onto the goals for today.....
my exercise goal for today is to do WATP 1 mile.
My food goal for today is NO GRAZING! 3 meals, 2 snacks, and plenty of water. I'm not planning yet, just trying to get the grazing stopped right now.
I will report back later.
Blessings,
Lori

Well, 6 days, and still keeping up with the walking (didn't walk yesterday, but I did get my hubby out with me and my friend and her hubby on Saturday morning, and I think that we may be doing that every Saturday morning...at least I hope so!). I'm LOVING how I'm feeling with exercising again....standing taller, feeling stronger, etc....but probably the BEST side effect (that I forgot about)is that my s** drive has increased which is a very good thing! Now if I could just get my kids to fall asleep before I do!!!!!
Blessings,
Lori

I know Denise is not all my "F-word" bandwagon but i just had to add some of what has been inspiring me...not only Jamie Lee Curtis, and Lori, but Dara Torres---wow! 41 and beating out athletes half of her age.
Goals: 1. Stop thinking like a chronic dieter and start living to inspire. 2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy. 3. One word 2008: courage 4. Eat slow and mindfully.
Thanks everyone! I've walked Tues, Wed, Thurs, Friday, and will be walking tomorrow for an hour. The past two days my 10 year old has gone walking with me and my walking partner. Tomorrow I am walking with a different friend (one that is training to walk a 1/2 marathon in San Jose in October) and her husband for 1 hour. I"m praying that I can keep up alright and not have to lag behind.
Blessings,
Lori

i was reading MORE magazine, and Jamie Lee Curtis is on the cover. she did a piece on the "F-word" (FIFTY) turning fifty and re-defining yourself was the theme. so new F-words were like...
Free Fabulous Funny Forgiving Furious
So I was thinking since 2008 is my year of being Forty...what kind of F-words I wanted to emphasize..
Definitely....Free

Congrats!!!! (People whine a lot that it is sooooo much harder to lose after a "certain age"... be it 30, 40, 50, 60... but my experience if a person gets on track... they lose weight.)
I've been completely and totally swamped this past 2 weeks, and have had no extra time for anything! But I did want to check in with you all to report that I've been doing really really well with eating with purpose (and have now started watching my portions), drinking my water (not that I have a choice with the 105-110 degree temps we are having right now), and this week have added in walking with a new friend....she's a fellow homeschool mom and I just met her this week. We're starting out slow (probably a bit slower than I need, but she's very overweight and gets winded pretty quickly), but will start increasing our time/distance/speed once both of our bodies are used to a regular exercise routine again (and after the air quality is out of the dangerous zone....fires+extreme heat+where I live= YUCKY air that you can not only see, but feel!!!!) we will start stepping it up. We walk on the college track, and it's been nice to know that we are safe and can talk while walking

Ok, apparently I'm just jumping right in Yesterday was a very good day as far as food was concerned. I started journaling my food....opened up a word document on the computer and everytime I'd eat or drink something I'd go log it and the time and why I was eating/how I was feeling. Also am getting back on track with DASH because I did feel better when I was keeping track of that. I still have a hard time getting all of the aspects in though! Especially the grains and dairy....
Exercise, yesterday was an insanely busy day, and it just didn't happen, but it will today!
I'm also drinking lots more water again, which is a very good thing.
My goals for today:
3 meals/2 snacks....no grazing! journal food and drink on computer drink water
Exercise: take 3 year old that I'm babysitting for a walk to the store today....not a cardio effort at all, but it will be good for forming the habit again!
Bonus: track DASH checklist
Blessings,
Lori

Thank you all for your birthday wishes! I greatly appreciate it!
Well, yesterday was a very good day as far as my goals were concerned. I ate 3 meals and 1 snack (wasn't hungry in the afternoon because we had a later than usual lunch) and did a little walk in the morning and got my friend to walk last night when it started cooling down outside. We walked approx. a mile (maybe mile and half? I'm going to have to go over and check it on my odometer)....it was a decent pace, but not fast by any means....I was getting winded .
Today's goals are the same....
WATP (or a walk this evening with Don....some much needed alone time)
3 meals and 2 snacks
Blessings,
Lori

Happy belated birthday and best of luck on your new goals. Nothing is more refreshing to me than to get back to being healthy and taking care of myself. Nice to have you back!
Jill
Summer Challenge Goals: 1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week 2) Plan weekly menus
Well, I failed miserably yesterday! I don't know why, but I just kept eating this and that everytime I went into the kitchen to cook or to clean or get water or whatever..... And I didn't get my WATP done either. BUT today is a new day, and I'm already doing MUCH MUCH MUCH better today!
My goals for today are the same as yesterday....
eat 3 meals and 2 snacks....no grazing!
And do 1 mile WATP
So far today I have had breakfast and am about to go in and make my lunch. I will have a small snack of homemade hummus and 1 portion size of pita chips (I bought a bag of pita chips today....should have just bought pitas and made my own pita chips, but I just don't want to run the oven!....it's 101 today)
I didn't do my WATP, but I did walk, and am hoping to get one of my friends to go on a walk this evening while our teenage kids are doing bible study at her house. She is training for a half-marathon (walking it), so I'm sure she'll go for it....IF I can handle the heat....we'll see
Blessings,
Lori
