I have decided that I need to stop buying those baking M&Ms and peanut butter chips that I use as treats. I'm eating too many of them and am losing my self control with them in the house. I need to replace those calories with something healthier - real peanut butter on ww toast or something like that. I'll go back to buying some dark chocolate for special treats but that's it.
This is going to be a tough one for me but over the course of the week, I'm probably eating 1000 calories worth of them - 1000 calories I could be using towards healthier options.
As for the bag I have left, I'm going to preportion size them, that way I'm not tempted to "over pour" or go back for seconds. I think that knowing this is the last bag will help me stretch them too.
Hopefully posting this will remind me not to buy more!

Thanks for checking in! I'm doing well. I've preportioned out my amount for the day and I've been sticking to it! The last three days, I've done well. This last bag will probably end up lasting a while but at least I feel "under control" with them now.

Hey Lori,
I looked at the DASH eating plan and it recommended 4 serv of fruit and 4 of vegs. Maybe you are not eating too much...

Although, it is great that you eat so much fruit!

Yes, Denise, that is my problem, I'm eating too much fruit, and it isn't even my favorite fruits' season yet!!! I'm having a HUGE problem with eating too much fruit. I am getting a lot of veggies too, but I'd be so happy if I could just eat fruit all day long....

Yes, it's better than chocolate, but not what I should be eating!

Blessings,

Lori

Looks like a great plan. I think (this week!) I'm almost there - which I'm happy about.

Thanks!

You could always make up a batch of the meringue cookies from the recipe swap and use them up that way!

So far so good today! I had a great 2 hr workout this morning and made sure I had plenty of protein at lunch so I'm feeling good.
Thanks so much for asking!

I think every body and metabolism is different, Lori. I generally eat 2 servings of fruit every day--one mid-morning and one mid-afternoon. One week in January, I goofed and bought too much fruit, so I ate 3 pieces of fruit every day that week. I gained weight that week, even though the rest of my eating was fine. I also think it depends on the type of fruit...as someone mentioned, bananas are high in sugar.

Bee, I just this past two weeks came to the same conclusion with my "crunchy corn" that I buy at Whole Foods. It is a very satisfying snack and only 2g of fat for an ounce (I usually eat either 1/2 oz. or 1 oz. when I eat it) but I have found that I started to crave it all the time and, while I don't eat more than 1 portion in a day, I started having it too often.

This past weekend, when I went to Whole Foods, I passed right by a pile of crunchy corn and said "NO...you're not buying that." Last night, I ate the last ounce in the bag I had.

The interesting thing is that I made this decision about giving up the crunchy corn close to two weeks ago and, since that time, that last ounce of corn laid in the bag on my kitchen counter uneaten until last night. It's like my decision to not buy any more crunchy corn flipped some switch in my brain and I stopped craving it. Isn't that WEIRD?

I think it is a good, better, best thing. Sure replacing Snicker's bars with an apple or orange is better, but replacing one serving of fruit with another veggie would prob. be best.

Also, I think it depends on your overall health. Bee, for example is in great shape and exercises a lot, she can prob eat 2-3 servings of fruit and will burn off what sugar she does eat.

My mom is diabetic and has to watch her overall consumption of carbohydrates regardless if they are natural, artificial, from fruit or candy.

I think most of us could eat 2-3 servings and be fine. Also, the type of fruit can make a difference too. Bananas are super high in sugar, so actually half a banana is considered a serving.

Hi, from stacy a/k/a snobles :

Bee:

So nice to see youSmiler Good job with the fruit. I know what you mean about the treats, if I don't have them I don't miss them ,but if I have them watch out. I bring fruits and veggies almost every day during the week for lunch, otherwise it would be so hard for me to get them in each day. Last night, I really wanted the Klondike Bar in my freezer, but instead I kissed y dh on the cheek as he ate his BOWL of ice cream and went downstairs and laced up my sneakers and walked away the urge on the Treadmill. Ya, right! no seriously, I didn't want it when I was done. I have been sleeping well too after my night time adventures on mt TM. Funny, that I finally think I may be on to something here. I have stopped working against myself.

Denise:
I also heard more veggies than fruits, I believe it has to do with the sugar content, but I am no dietition.

The Dash Eating Plan - Dietary Approaches to Stopping Hypertension, endorsed by the American Heart Association recommends eating 8-10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and at least 3 servings of low fat diary.

I was talking to a friend yesterday about will power and self control, etc. We both have days (or even weeks) of terrific self control. I'm so calm. I'm like the Zen master over the food in my fridge and cupboards. Then, boom, I want to eat 5 bowls of cereal. Waiting for the urge to eat 5 stalks of broccoli. I do get the urge to eat a pound of asparagus or artichokes. Maybe there is hope.

My friend didn't think that it was hormones as she's had a hysterectomy.

I also think that it is kind of a "snacking leads to more snacking" thing. Sounds vaguely Puritan. Weekly desserts/sweets (except for fruit) work really well for me (that’s what I had as a kid and it is familiar), but I know that there are lots of people who do really well eating one piece of chocolate a day - and would be a wreck if it were taken away.

Good luck. Hang in there.

Denise

I am finding that eating 2 serving of fruit in the mid morning is really helping me to feel more satisfied all day.

Bee,

I have found the same thing with some of the things that I have used as "treat" items in the past. I can do fine with them for a long while, then one day I find that I have lost control, and am eating 2 or 3 portions of them per day.

My biggest thing right now is that I am eating too much fruit, and I"m concerned that it may be partially responsible for my not having lost any weight for the past several weeks. I know that the fruit consumption is just going to go up over the next several months, so I need to determine if this is actually the problem or not. Today, I know it's not my problem, today nachos was my problem....I made nachos for the kids for lunch, and ended up eating a whole big portion of them myself. They were fairly healthy, baked tortilla chips, shredded beef (probably 5 ounces), and some cheese, but I had only planed on a salad with leftover mongolian beef in my plan for the day Frowner Anyhow, I'm finding that if I want to increase my fruit (I'm currently getting 4-5 servings of fruit per day) I'm going to have to really clean up my eating before then.

Blessings,

Lori

I've had fruit every day now for the last 10 days : ) I've worked into my afternoon snack. I think I'm close to having it be a habit.
Now that I'll have even more calories to play with, maybe I'll try to get in two servings of fruit/day in addition to all my veggies.
