So tomorrow I am heading out for 6 days in and around Dublin. I know I'm going to eat a bit heartier than usual (heck, they serve chips with EVERYTHING!), and I plan to balance that out by walking everywhere we can. I usually track my daily walking in minutes, but I don't think that's going to be realistic for the trip.

To track my walking while I'm away, I want to use a pedometer. DH has an unused one that I've been testing all morning, and it keeps resetting back to 0 steps on it's own--so I don't want to use it. I'm going to try to get a new one today or tomorrow before I leave.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, reliable brand?

YAMAX of Japan is said to make the most accurate coiled-spring type pedometers. I got mine under the New Lifestyles Digi-Walker brand name.

I like one that counts miles, not just steps. I got the model SW-701 which also counts calories, but found that number to be depressingly small.Smiler

I bought mine at a local retailer, but here is the company web site.

********

The ACCUSPLIT EAGLE XLE Series and ACCUSPLIT EAGLE XL Goal Setting Series brag they they have the "same certified accurate JW200 PedometerEngine™ as the original Digi-Walker and Digi-Walker XL"

They also state "Certified Accurate, JW200 PedometerEngine™ Research-tested and proven accurate for more than 10 years."

At sports retailers, Accusplit is an easier to find brand than New Lifestyles. Here is their product catalog.

Alli,
I bumped up a thread where there's some discussion of specific brands of pedometers.

Enjoy tour trip!

I have a cheap $5 one from Walmart. It works just fine, but I found it's .23 miles off for every 3 miles I walk.

Which blew me away when I realized that I actually ran 6.5 miles last week, not just 6. I would never have guessed I was running farther than I was. I thought I was short in my distances, hence why I tracked it on an officially distanced race.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.

The one I used to use (when we were doing our virtual walk across America Big Grin) was by Omron and I bought it at CVS drug store.
I tried to look it up but they have so many different ones I can't remember which one I had. It counted steps and was supposed to show how many calories were burned but I only used it for the step counting.
