If you are familiar with Penzeys you know that their list of offerings is huge. I'm familiar enough with the basic spices but I am curious about the different seasoning mixes they have. For those of you that have tried them...what are your favorites and how do you use it?
I've tried the Old World and the Pizza Seasoning and I love them both.

Funny you say that, I accidentally put cinnamon in my chili one time,thinking it was cumin, but it actually tasted good. Now I add a little on purpose.

Hello! I love Penzy's stuff! Their prices are very good and the products can be ordered in a variety of sizes to suit your needs, from an ounce to over a pound. I love all their salt-free blends, since I cannot add salt to anything. And their unsweetened cocoa powder is the absolute best anywhere!!!! I grind my own whole spices when I need them, and theirs are of the highest quality and just seem to last the longest.
ooOOooOooh. . .I've been looking for a not-so-cinnamony-cinnamon for my chili (no, really, try just the teensiest, tiniest hit of cinnamon in a pot of chili). . .I might have to give the Ceylon cinnamon a try!

For those who indulge in chocolate dishes, Penzeys Ceylon Cinnamon adds an "exotic Mexican flavor", that is significantly different than the flavor of American-type cinnamon.
I haven't used it in quite a while, but their Herbes de Provence, which includes lavender, is interesting on chicken.
Max, when you get the Greek one, give this a go. . .
Peel & seed a couple of cucumbers and dice them up, then add a diced tomato and a slice of red onion, reeeeeallllly finely diced. Throw in some crumbled feta, a dollop of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a splash (or two) of red wine vinegar. A pinch of coarse salt, then the seasonings. I'm only using oregano right now, but I'd be interested in hearing how it is with the seasonings. If it's good, I'll buy it

I am lucky enough to have a Penzey's in town. I have not tried anything there that I did not like. I love to play with the different chili powders. The vanilla is out of this world!
Thanks so much for the replies! I love Penzeys too. I heard about them from KD's second book and placed a small first order. I was really pleased with what I got.
You're right D, the pasta sprinkle is really great. They sent a sample to me when I got my first order. This morning I ordered their Greek Seasoning that they've done in celebration of the Olympics. I also got some small samplers of the a couple of the mixes too so we'll see how they turn out.

I recently ordered the "beginner" gift set for my brother, who's just beginning to take an interest in cooking. I plan on getting the "spicy" set for my dad, since my brother has given rave reviews of the stuff he got. . per the website, it's Old World Seasoning, Pepper Lemon Seasoning, Granulated Garlic, Shaker Grind Tellicherry Pepper, Regular Chili Powder, Taco Seasoning, Pasta Sprinkle, and Italian Dressing Base.
Apparently the Pasta Sprinkle is a big hit, and the Pepper Lemon is good on chicken, steaks, and seafood.
I'll admit to being a little disappointed with other brands' "mixes", and tend to make my own now. I buy the spices at a local market and make up my own versions of chili seasoning, seafood sprinkle, Cajun rub, Texas rub, and sweet rub. I haven't tried Penzey's, though, and maybe if I start sending out enough gift sets from them, someone will get the hint and get me one

Penzeys is one of my favorite places. Their sweet curry rocks! It's great on popcorn, potatos, chicken, tuna salad, pretty much anything savory. I have even added it to a vinagrette. The Bavarian seasoning is great with chicken. And the sandwich sprinkle is good on pretty much anything. The only thing I have tried that I wasn't too keen on was the Parmesan Peppercorn dressing. Normally I love that combo, but this variety had a funny taste to it. For the record I normally make all of my dressings from scratch, so any pre-fab or bottled dressing usually tastes weird to me. I hope that helps. We are slowly trying to add new spices to our cupboard whenever we make room.
