Wii Fit?

Has anyone tried Wii Fit? We just got it, and although it IS fun I don't quite know what to think of it in terms of "real" exercise. It kind of feels like I'm deceiving myself. (Why not go running for real?) Or is this aimed at people who can't do "real" exercise for whatever reason (keeping in mind that a certain successful loser / board member started out by walking in front of the tv Wink)?

Whatever. What do YOU think?

I have been wanting a Wii, but they have been sold out everywhere for so long so I hope to get one for Christmas. I'm curious about the Jillian workout, so if she gets it, if you could post a review here that would be great.

I have no specific goal(s) right now. I am trying to find the spiritual side of myself that I lost somewhere along the way.

I tried some of the Wii Fit exercises on Sunday and ended up with sore thighs from doing lunges Roll Eyes I guess that says something about the shape I'm in...

It's fun, but from an exercise point of view I wouldn't give up my (nonexistent) gym membership just yet. It's way too easy to cheat the sensors and also injure yourself doing the moves wrong. Still, it's good for a giggle: I entered all my body data on Sat night after a huge dinner and it basically told me "uh-oh, we have work to do" - then I checked in on Sunday morning and it said, "Whee, you've lost a pound! Great job!" (I slept, woke up, went to the bathroom, got up...great job!) Wink

some of my friends have really enjoyed it. one friend has two boys and they are doing boxing and tennis. there is a way for you to track how much distance you are walking, so one of her boys walks around the house as much as possible to get more distance than his brother. my friend does tai chi , and yoga with the system and loves it. she is busy with her boys, and giving music lessons, so it is a great way for her to do some activity in her living room.

another friend of mine gave up his gym membership, and uses the system to home exercises. he has always been a fan of exercise and wanted to stay active.

i was actually thinking of getting one for christmas. i will see how the budget goes.

Goals:
1. Enjoy life!
2. Be aware, be awake, pay attention.
3. One word 2010: faith

For me, the idea of 'real' exercise kept me on the couch. When I was able to set that idea aside and decide that moving in whatever form was good, I was able to get moving and burn calories. The piece of information (that I somehow missed in HS science class!) was that I burned the same calories when I moved my fanny over a distance no matter how quickly I did it. Mass/distance = calories burned.

I personally mostly exercise for calorie burn and am not as concerned about increasing my cardio capacity. It's all about what your goals are. If you just want to burn some calories everyday, I think the Wii or anything you will actually do is 'real' enough.

For me that kind of thinking is indicative that I've gotten into 'all or nothing' mode....again! Smiler
