Does anybody have a remedy from an itchy scalp?
My mother is constantly complaining that her head itches. She has tried numerous shampoos that are supposed to be for itchy scalp but nothing helps.
Do you think it could be nutritional? She definately does not eat properly , & is not likely to start, but she does take vitamins.

A trip to a dermatologist can save a lot of head ache (sorry, bad pun...)

They can take one look at it and determine what it is and tell you how to fix it.

I can be less expensive in the long run. My dh spent a lot of $$$ at the drug store on cortisone creams, etc. on a "dry patch" on his nose. I've been bugging him for months because it looks like a patch of pre-cancerous stuff that my dermatologist burns off. He has an appt. for June 6th.

My dermatologist always checks my scalp as I've had sunburns...

If is doesn't clear up... I'd make an appt.

My dad uses baby shampoo for that reason and it helps.

Also, not to be overly dramatic, but just to be safe. Has she been checked by a dermatologist? My friend's sister was constantly complaining of an itching a scalp and she had skin cancer.
If she hasn't been checked out, it may not be a bad idea.

When I was pregnant I had a very dry scalp and my hairdresser suggested I use Colesterol cream, it is sold in the drug store.

Just a thought...have you checked for lice? I know it is not a great thought but I work in school so it was what first came to mind.

My suspicion would be that it's an irritation issue rather than a nutritional one. Possibly she's sensitive to something in the shampoo? Or her scalp is drying out because she's washing her hair too vigorously?

I had a friend who was going crazy when he had the chickenpox because his scalp burned when he washed his hair. I suggested he try a baby shampoo, and that did seem to help. Maybe that would help your mom? They have less fragrances and other potential irritants than most other shampoos.
