i was reading a magazine article where it was suggested that one wya to silence those negative message in your head was to give the "speaker" a name. for example, when my negative messages start, i would say "Hey, knock it off Stan!" I am partial to Fred. but to each its own...what do you guys think?

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

I was reading an old fitness magazine this morning and something made me chuckle . it was all about things we tell ourselves to get motivated to workout. here are some:

"thin, strong, lean and long. thin strong lean and long..."

"can i get some fries with that shake shake booty? If looks could kill you would be an Uzi" (Salt and Peppa, "Shoop")

"This is not the hardest thing I have ever done."

"I never regret when I do it. But I always regret when I don't"

"Beat beat beat fast little feet feet feet"

"Kill kill kill the Hill!"

"A strong outside strengthens the inside"

feel free to add and/or modify!

Goals:
1. Enjoy life!
2. Be aware, be awake, pay attention.
3. One word 2010: faith

I think the most frequent thing I tell my body is, "Oh Puh-LEEZE!"

I need to have a weight training talk with my body:

Suck it up, tendons and ligaments!

No popping elbows!

That goes for you too, back and knees!

Hey shoulder! Quit crunching like that!

Goal: Stop stress snacking.

Talking to yourself is fine.

Answering yourself is fine.

But, if you talk to yourself, then say "HUH?", you know you're in trouble!

It used to be in the past that if you saw someone talking to themselves they were a bit "nutty", nowdays they are on the phone using an earpiece Wink

Flylady has a link to a website called the brat factor. The whole idea is that my whiny, complainy voice is my inner 2 year old, who I've named "Kitty" because she really reminds me of the character Kitty Montgomery from "Dharma and Greg".

I do take the time to tell Kitty that just because we want ______ doesn't mean we're going to get it. This applies to food, not quitting working out early, wanting to purchase running gear, eating out more, etc.

Even when I'm not hearing Kitty whine in my ear, I have to remind myself to encourage, congratulate, and give myself lots of credit for the good things I've done. This is actually harder for me than keeping Kitty in check.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
