Walking question

I have a feeling the answer to this question is simple but I am making it complicated.

How do you determine how many MPH you are walking while exercising? I log my exercise on Fitday and it gives options like 2.5MPH or 3.5MPH or whatever but I don't know how I figure it out. Anyone know?

I have no specific goal(s) right now. I am trying to find the spiritual side of myself that I lost somewhere along the way.

From everything I have read it has to do with how briskly you walk the mile.

Perhaps this goes without saying, but I'll say it because I had to learn it Smiler

Get in your car and reset the odometer like you would for a trip - to zero. Now drive the distance you plan to walk. Now you know how many miles it is! Next, walk it briskly and time yourself on your watch. Without a pedometer, this is as accurate as you'll get.

You need to know the distance that you are walking and then just keep track of the time.

Here's a nifty website for calculating your distance - http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

So, for example, if you walk 3 miles in 1 hour, your speed will be 3 MPH; 3 miles in 30 minutes would be 6 MPH, etc....

Hope this helps.

PS You can also go to this website: http://www.uchsc.edu/anes/research/tools/time-speed-solver.html

Input the distance and time and it will figure out your speed for you : )

Jill, I think you can buy a little contraption to wear that will tell you.
