Okay, so not fat, fat but fat enough that the dryer shrunk my winter coat that's never seen the inside of a dryer if you know what I mean.
Throughout the Holildays I slept and ate and slept and ate and didn't work out enough. And the universe responded. On top of ruining my coat, the dryer shrunk ALL MY PANTS and ALL MY TOPS and ALL MY DRESSES AND SKIRTS!
I'm back to day by day, meal by meal, workout by workout. That's right, the girl who wrote the books on fat IS laden with fat. And I have NO ONE to blame but me!
Anyway, you'll be seeing a lot more of pitty party me on the forums. The forums are the BEST tool for staying on track. I'll be posting for accountability, for support and motivation.
I rode my rollers this morning - 45 minutes. Did light weight training at physical therapy. I'm having a horribly interesting (not)salad for lunch and spaghetti squash with marinara and parmesan for dinner. YUM!
KD, would love to hear how you're doing and get an update on your various projects. You're trying to get so many things in order, it's not surprising that your personal care stuff started to slide -- it's always the first to go. Hope you're well.

I don't even HAVE a dryer, so what's up with MY clothes? (argghh)
This week is the first time in weeks or even months that I'm even remotely on track. I have to say I feel a lot better physically. Despite this, I still feel FAT. Ick.
On the topic of going back to school: I went back to school at age 30 (third time around) and it felt weird to attend my own freshman party on my 30th birthday with a lot of 18-19 yo's. Then I got pg, had a family, stayed home for several years, and am now trying to get back on track academically at age 43... In terms of learning and analyzing information, age has given me a lot of advantages I didn't have before.

When I took College Composition I, the professor kept picking my writing as a good example and reading my papers to the class and it sparked a good bit of jealousy and resentment.
I ran into that problem in one of my classes this last semester. I was the only female in the room and more than once got some disgusted vibes from the teenagers/early 20ers who didn't do as well as I did. But since I'm working really hard to pay for this education, I intend to get my money's worth.
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
I work on a college campus, and I'm sure those girls are very well aware that everyone can see their thongs and Hello Kitty underpants and whatever. They probably sit down in front of a mirror just to make sure they're getting the right effect. :P

ps......when the teenage girl in front of me sat down, exposing her butt crack and the pink thong she was wearing, I was very tempted to say "honey, did you know that all of these boys can see your butt?", but I didn't. Nope, I am not her mother and when I am having me time, I am nobody's mother! As tempting as it may be!!![/QUOTE]
This cracks me up.... I was at a wedding shower and there were two people 'my age'..aka 40.. that were making out in the resteraunt. The one had very low rider jeans and we could see she had 'Hello Kitty" underwear. I can NOT look at the hello kitty stuff in th store without cracking up.

Good for you! I went back to college for two years at 56 .
Me three! I didn't even start college until I was 35! However, since I was going at night, it was a mix of ages--though probably most were younger than me.
The only time I had trouble was not with teenagers but with people closer to my own age. When I took College Composition I, the professor kept picking my writing as a good example and reading my papers to the class and it sparked a good bit of jealousy and resentment. One guy actually had the nerve to say that I didn't belong in that class because I was too good a writer. I told him that it was my first composition class just like it was his, but I just happened to love writing and he found it a chore.

I have gained back twenty of the 37 pounds that I had lost last year. My resolution is to get organized and disciplined. That includes in the home, with my kids activities and most of all in my own personal self.
I am getting back into my good behavior routines like going to the gym, riding my bike and watching what I eat.
I signed up for the Discovery Challenge. If I log in my weight every day I will be entered into a contest to win a million dollars....there is some motivation!
Oh, and I am going back to college to get my degree and be an RD. I actually started back today. A little weird since I am 41 and the average age of the people in my class was about 19.
So, I am actually putting into motion all of the things it is going to take to make me a more successful, and healthy person in '07!
This is the year of Me!! I still love my husband and my kids!! I am still here for them and am taking care of the important stuff like scheduling my classes so I can still be at home when they get home after school. I am still den mom and am ready for my middle son's baseball season in the Little league Majors that is going to start in a couple of weeks!!
Just going to be sure to make my time really Me time every day!!!!!

Pity parties are ok in moderation (everything is ok in moderation-right KD?) but we need to set a limit on them so that they don’t go on for days or weeks or longer. Here is a scene from one of dd’s books I am reading. The pity party is brought on by a man instead of a dryer but the premise is the same and I think we could modify it to suit our needs.
Excerpt from “Improper English” by Katie MacAlister: She is visiting two friends and they have asked her what is wrong. […] “I gave in to the inevitable and had a good cry. I was really getting into it, wailing and sobbing into a succession of tissues, more than a little worried because I didn’t seem to be able to stop myself, when a timer went off behind me. “Three minutes,” Ray said from the kitchen, and walked around to hand me my wine glass. “Three minutes?” I asked, blowing my nose and mopping up the rest of the waterworks. “We have a rule,” Bert explained, scooting over to sit next to me, putting an arm around me in a little hug. “When we get depressed, we let ourselves have three minutes of solid cry time. After that, we’re ready to talk about whatever is causing the problem. […]”
Whenever we give in to that unhealthy snack that is calling to us from the pantry or the dryer shrinks our clothes we have three minutes for a pity party and then we need to get over it and get back on track.

Darn dryers anyway! KD, you are not alone, we all used our dryers this holiday season and are paying the price. But, my dear friend, you are among people who love you, who will allow you short pity parties, but not wallowing ones. You've started back, now, keep going. We're in there with you, you know that. You've allowed us the same, now let's get it off together.
It's never too late to get it right.

That same dryer has shrunk dd's clothes by one or two sizes (14lbs ) so she is back to paying closer attention to what she is doing.
It hasn't done any damage to my clothes (so far) but I have been spending entirely too much time sitting in the bed reading (that is the only place to sit unless I am at the computer). I have been staying in the bedroom with the door closed later and later in the mornings for the peace & quiet. Mother doesn't come in and read to me out of the paper or repeat what she just heard on CNN Headline News if she thinks I am still asleep. Any other time of the day she just opens the door, walks in unannounced and starts talking.
I have dug out my pedometer and have joined the 100 Mile Challenge so between the extra walking and just getting active earlier in the day I hope to break this plateau (211-213) I have been on for months. I would really like to be at or below 200 by the time I see the doctor again in Feb.
KD-I look forward to seeing you on the board more.

Well, it appears that 3 of us have the same dryer! My dryer has shrunk my pants.....all of them!
Today I had my oatmeal for breakfast (1st day to a new habit ), had a SMALL cup of coffee (so as not to inhibit my water intake).... Lunch will be vegetable soup, 1/2 a turkey sandwich and a salad very lightly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette
Dinner is a new recipe (in the crockpot)...it is a pork roast and beans cooked with mexican spices and green chiles served on flour tortillas with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and I'll make some steamed green beans and a green salad to go with it.
Blessings,
Lori
