Did you HEAR Janice what's-her-name on the Today show call Tyra FAT? I can't STAND it! Tyra's fat and Jennifer Love Hewitt is "just fine"?

Meanwhile she (Janice) was a breath mint shy of dropping off that stool from starvation.

What do you guys REALLY think of this - skinny "role models" in the media, skinny images everywhere, skinny actresses, skinny athletes, skinny cover girls??!

I believe with my own two eyes that NO ONE in the media is telling the truth about this because the truth doesn't sell.

We act like we care - but size 0 reporters tell the story of how terrible and irresponsible it is to teach our girls to diet to size zeros, twos and fours BUT the moral side of the story is off the front page when the magazines stop selling.

Have you seen the cover of "Women's Health" Magazine this month? It's an OUTRAGE!

when the low rise jeans first came out, i was adamant with dd--you will not wear jeans that are one inch away from the promised land. now, all jeans are low rise (for her age group) so i crumbled under the market-pressure and gave in.

i have to admit, the low rise made it more comffie for my "muffin top" when i had a more prominant one. and now, i can find some jeans that are not as LOW LOW rise, but more for a 40 year old gal like me.

2. HALT (hungry, anxious, lonely, tired) I will stop and tune in with myself should I experience these things, and respond with something healthy.

That's one of the reasons why I hung on to my '90s jeans. I thought I needed to have them because I wouldn't be able to find new ones. Yesterday I tried them on to see if the waist was still tight. It was, sort of, but the biggest problem was they were way too high-waisted. They actually squeezed around my lowest rib(s) and that was NOT a nice feeling. It looks as though I'll have to let them go after all. Darn. They felt loose enough elsewhere.

Oh well. I do have a pair that fits well and another pair that's on the big side.

I think we'd be better off if the clothing industry sized jeans like men's - waist and inseam!

In general though, I find that when I really need something for an event, I can never find what I'm looking for (at the price I'm willing to pay) and when I don't need something, I walk into a store and find a bunch of cute things.

That is pretty much how I am.

Some brands fit me. Some brands are made for women with more waist and hips and don't fit me.

This kind of goes back to the original post. We are NOT all shaped alike and different manufactures make clothes for all sizes and shapes of women.

There are a couple of brands of pants that fit me really well but most brands do not. It is ok.

so i find some brands can accommodate my rotund bottom-half: american eagle, arizona brand at JC penny, some levi's. and that is about it folks.
i really dislike shopping for jeans.

I'm with you Denise! Not only being tall, but being long. I'm actually on the short side of Talls but I need extra length in my sleeves (and sometimes my pants). My sil who is 6' doesn't have the sleeve problem that I do.

Then there's waists - if I'm long - they don't hit right. And then my shoe size…

Strange that I'm not naked!

I really do not like to shop at all.

My experience was when I was larger "everything" was smaller. When I'm smaller, "everything" is in larger sizes.

It seems that ANYTIME I go shopping, I can't find "anything" that is the right size. But thus far... I am not going naked... so obviously I AM capable of finding clothes that fit.

I think whatever it is we want, it's always available in a size we think won't fit us.

TJ frequently holds up items while we're at the outlet mall and asks, "Aren't you a 4? Are you SURE? There's a lot of things in that size."

There's a Lane Bryant outlet there, too. When I'd walk in and ask about anything smaller than a 22, the ladies would tell me they rarely get anything in those sizes.

At the Geoffrey Beene outlet, they'd tell me the same thing about those same sizes.

Poor TJ...he has a 19-inch neck, and wears a XXL in most things to accomodate that (and now, to accomodate his belly). He can NEVER find stuff on sale.

I'm gonna make a sweeping generalization and say....no one wears 4s, 8s, or 10s with any regularity, since those seem to be ALL I see when I shop. It's one of the reasons I'd really like to find myself in size 10. I'd never run out of cute clothes to buy!

(I *know* people wear 4s, 8s, and 10s. It was a joke, mostly.)

your math is just fine and dandy. i remember thinking the same thing. but apparantly, that is what was told to Star Jones when she ranted about this issue.

maybe the math works in their direction. i.e. the average woman is willing to spend $30-50 on jeans. the average stick thin wealthy lady can spend $250 on jeans. i don't know rastro! I usually buy my jeans on clearance, or sams club will carry Levis for $17.99.

Maybe I can't do the math, but... does the industry get so much more money out of these rich women than out of the millions of average women who must also have some kind of income and an interest in spending money on clothes?

i remember watching the view a few years back, and Star Jones was going off on the fashion industry--why they do not carry normal sizes when the majority of the purchasing-women out there was wearing something greater than a size 12.

The industry replied. the response was that the deisgners of high fashion PURPOSELY only carry small sizes, i.e. double zeros, size 1, 2, 4--because they wanted to create a perception that they catered to those stick thin women because apparantly, women with tons of fat cash were also incredibly stick thin. so it had to do with money and perception and purposely not wanting to attract the average american woman. meanwhile, the damaging messages this sends to the average american woman and teen girl....well, you guys know...

I can wear a size 2 in *some* pants and 4's and 6's in others. I am not skeletal... nor am I fat. Smiler

(I'm right around 5'2")

Ditto for me and I'm only an inch taller than Denise.

For the record, my upper thigh area looks very much like Jennifer Love Hewitt's unflattering shot. Celulite knows no size limit ; )

Do you know what I find interesting? When I go to the Gap-which is the only place I buy jeans-they NEVER have size 14's. They have 00, 02, 03, 04, 06, 08, etc but not 14 and 16's. I have been told that those are the most popular sizes and that is why they are sold out! Not that I want to be a 14 or 16 but it means something to me that not everyone in the world is a size 2. And I mean NO offense to those of you who are size 2, 4, 6, etc. But, I think of Marilyn Monroe and Catherine Zeta Jones and other celebrities who are healthy, curvy women. I like my curves but wish there were a few less of them. As Linda said, I cannot imagine being 5'8" and 125! I am 5'6" and when I weighed 125 I look pretty darn thin! I don't know-I guess it depends on body type/height/etc. I will never, ever be a less than a size 10 I in reality because I am "big-boned", so to speak. I am built bigger than the average person. I have big shoulders and hips, and even as a 118 lb teenager I was "big".

Heaven and quite a few others know that I am not at anything close to an ideal weight. I am obese, but…

if I were not obese I would never be a size anything less than 12. I can not put my mind around the thought. I'm 5'8" and used to marvel, 30+ years ago when the Miss America contest announced the height and weight of the contestants. I could not understand how someone could be 5'10" and weigh 125#.
In college I worked for a division of Macy's. The smallest size we carried was a 4 and we usually had only one of those and 1 size 6 then we'd have 2-8s, 2-10s and 2-12s in anyone style. I don't remember about size 14 but would be back down to one of size 16. When did zeros and twos even come into the picture.

I hope that when I grow up I can be fat like Tyra Banks. I also never gave Jennifer Love Hewitt a thought, but I was very impressed with her comments. Looking at that People Magazine cover, however, makes me wonder that she is a size two. Not that I know what a size two is. She just looks healthy - not skeletal.
