I went to Starbuck's after exercise with two freinds. We shared a 6oz Chantico--- a chocolate drink that is far, far richer than hot cocoa. I had 2oz. I can't find the calories on the web site and they did not know at the store. Any one have an idea?
I know that this is not a big deal today, I am just wanting to know as I liked this A LOT and don't want to get into a dangerous habit. I am always better off when I am well aware of nutritional information.

Dawn, I agree that it is wonderful, but not worth the calories. Before I lost my weight I ignored the fat and calorie content of foods. I was in complete denial about how I was eating and what I was eating. I lived with my head in the sand. I want to make choices now.

Put 3 Tbs sweetened Cocoa powder in a small mug (this is not hot cocoa mix, just ground chocolate and sugar. Ghirardelli makes it, and so does sharfenberger. It's found near the baking chocolate in my store). Add about 1 tbs of cold water, and mix until it's totally combined. This should have the texture of chocolate syrup. Add boiling water to just about fill the cup and stir. Then, if you want, top with a splash of vanilla soy milk. (I suppose you could use regular milk, but when you mix dairy and chocolate your body doesn't absorb the anti-oxidants of the chocolate as well so you can't pretend it's health food!).
I sometimes stir this with a cinnamon stick. Or use hot coffee instead of boiling water for a mocha. Or add a teeny weeny pinch of cayenne pepper.

Sounds good. I make my own hot cocoa too. I use 1 c skim milk, 1/2 tea unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 packet Splenda. I sometimes add cinnamon. I love it and would much rather have a nice relaxing 100 calorie 8oz mug of this (it fills me up) than 2 oz of Chantico for 130 calories.

A recent tidbit that I saved from the ABC web site:
"The Numbers Behind the Beverages:
Dunkin Donuts Peppermint Mocha Latte in a 10 ounce cup Calories: 290 Grams of fat: 9g Grams of sugar: 49g COMPARE TO: One small McDonald's fries, 230 calories
Starbucks new hot chocolate, called Chantico, in a 6 oz. cup [no whipped cream] Calories: 390 Grams of fat: 21g Grams of sugar: 40g COMPARE TO: One McDonald's quarter pounder, 420 calories
Snapple iced tea, mint flavored [16 ounces] Calories: 220 calories Grams of fat: 0 Grams of sugar: 50g COMPARE TO: 1.5 oz. packet of Chips Ahoy Minis, 210 calories
Baskin Robbins Strawberry Smoothie, 24 oz. Calories: 500 Grams of fat: 1g Grams of sugar: 106g COMPARE TO: A clear measuring cup of 106 grams [1/4 pound] of sugar
Vitamin Water, defense flavored -- The label says 2½ servings per container, but of course, most people drink the whole bottle which is 20 ounces. Calories: 150 Grams of fat: 0 Grams of sugar: 32.5 COMPARE TO: 13 pieces of Ritz bits cheese sandwiches, 150 calories
SUPER CALORIC EXTRAVAGANZA:
Starbucks Strawberry and Crème Frappuchino, venti sized with whipped cream Calories: 770 Grams of fat: 19g Grams of sugar: 122g COMPARE TO: Three McDonald's hamburgers, 770 calories"
Alright... So I drank 130 calories this AM-it was only a few sips. Not too bad. Now I know that I must stay away. I will have to forget my afternoon milk tea to help make up for the calories. (I am eating a late lunch and early dinner- so should be ok.)
Speaking of hot chocolate, I haven't made any in very long time, but I used to make (rustic, very sweet, cinnamon flavored) Mexican Hot Chocolate. It comes in "round disks". The fun part was frothing it in a blender WITH THE CENTER CAP REMOVED.
Oh lord. BACK AWAY. Conventional hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder-- this stuff is made with cocoa BUTTER. According to the Hungry-Girl.com website, a 6-ounce cup of Chantico contains 390 calories and 21 grams of fat. BACK AWAY.
