I am thinking a lot about success. What we focus on grows in our lives.
What has been a success for you over the past couple months AND how can you build upon that success?

For me, I have increased my aerobic activity with a variety of workout shifts.
I can build upon this with more walk/runs this spring and summer. I do this in my neighborhood. It is convenient and free.

I have succeeded in dramatically reducing the number of times per week I eat out. I used to eat lunch out 5-6 times a week, breakfast out daily (at a bakery!), and take out dinner at least once a week.

I now eat lunch out no more than 2 times a week, breakfast only on Sundays, and dinner maybe 2 times a month. This summer I hope to cut down on eating lunch out even more.

My success is a little different. I bought a lovely house a month ago. Naturally, I have big plans for it, and ideals for what I want and how I want it to look. Now I have an ideal for me, too. And slowly but surely the house and I will get in tip top, beautiful shape!

How can I do this? Well gardening painting, cleaning, moving furniture.... all that stuffwill help me burn calories without evenrealizing... fun, productive exercise! What could be better? Definitely a win/win!

I have increased the number of veg.; fruits and diary products in my plan. If I hate three of those, then four was my goal. If I had two glasses of milk then I had a yogurt for a snack.
I've lost 5 more pounds since I made the switch, so it can't be hurting.

It's never too late to get it right.

My biggest sucess lately has been staying committed to the exercise and eating healthy even when I'm not getting results. The "old me" would have gotten mad and quit but the "new me" can see lots of other benefits to exercising and eating healthy besides weight loss.

Stephanie,
I agree that a big part of my success has come from surrounding myself with postive, supportive people here that give me what I need. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi everyone. This is an excellent thread Sandy!

For me success has come in several different ways. First, I really have eliminated the stress eating and that cut out a lot of unwanted calories.

I have really been focused on my working out 4-5 days a week and have my YOGA! I go to that on Wenesday's so it is a good break and reward in the middle of my week.

I have also surrounded myself with positive people, including all of you!

I strive to be a successful eater every day, I have to look at food like that. If not, my mind gets overwhelemed.

Let's continue to work towards success!

Hi,

My picture for success like Dinni had said comes mainly from watching KD's show and then reading her book.

I now know have no excuse not to exercise it's part of my daily routine, before it was I never had time , no time. blah blah blah. Now I have made the time.

I have learned to stop cleaning off everyones plate when my children don't finish.

How I can improve on my success is by sticking with my mini goals I set myself up for each day. Continue eating "only" whats on my plate and not my kids. And my biggy is keep doing these homework assignments because these really help me understand why I decided to live the Healthy Lifestyle and no its not strange or depriving its GREAT!!!

I consider my "big picture" successes to be the substantial improvement to my diet over my old way of eating, my 25-30 pound weight loss, and my 69-point reduction in total cholesterol.

Just recently, I've been focusing on shaking up my workout at the gym. The treadmill is "safe" and also fun because each treadmill has its own TV and I can keep myself entertained. But I've been spending more time lately on the elliptical and recumbent bike and that is really paying off. I am seeing a real difference in my endurance and that is SO great! I just finished doing my new 3-mile WATP and there was never a moment's question that I was going to finish it--considering how many times I've had to bail out of the 4-mile WATP without finishing in the past, that was a real sense of achievement.

the biggest success for me has been eating more fruits and veggies... fresh ones... I am eating about 3 fruits and 4-5 veggies each day on average... I've really gotten good at adding veggies to everything I make...

I do have a problem eating fruits "straight up" still... except for grapes and oranges... those I can eat that way... everytyhing else has to be added to something... so I can build on that by adding one new fruit every couple weeks that I eat whole...I make a fruit smoothie every morning with strawberries, soy milk, tofu and some sugar every morning... I'm slowly decreasing the sugar until I'm satisfied without it...

exercise wise I've really done more than ever before... I take a Pilates class once a week... and I'm riding my exercise bike at least 5 times a week... I plan on building my endurance with the bike... and adding 1 more Pilates session per week at home...

I try to continue to raise the bar at the gym every 2 -3 weeks. Increasing my weights, increasing reps, increasing resistence on the cardio equipment, etc... I've maxed out on my time at the gym (I can't squeeze in more than two hours) so now I'm doing the other stuff : )

I am a huge fan of following small baby steps. My friends and I started off by throwing a baseball around, and when we started, I walked to get the ball when I missed it, now I can sprint to get it every time without getting out of breath, and we throw the baseball for hours now, followed by about a 2 hour workout. What started with 15-20 minutes of relaxingly throwing a baseball has developed into a great workout routine, and the thought that we may decide to try out for my school Baseball team (with the 3 of us, we have a pitcher, and 2 outfielders, the things lacking at my school). Small steps got me there, and I even use them every day when I workout, I'm up to 30 minutes every other day on our EFX machine (slightly more strenuous than cross-country skiing) so though I'm still overweight, I feel great, and I am in better shape than I remember being in since I was 8.

I think that success is coming in baby steps. After listening to a few of kd's shows I started thinking that I got to this stage in baby steps and that is the way back. Each step is important eating right, exercising, and keeping your mental health in the up mode.

1. Sticking to smaller baby steps. 25 mins of cardio a day works much better for me than a bigger plan to do more and more and more.

2. I started eating vegs at 5pm most everyday. dh has been very good about getting home at 7pm so I have been waiting to eat with him. Eating the vegs really tides me over - plus I get extra servings of vegs - plus we all have dinner together. A win/win/win plan.
