I generally don't watch her show, but today she had on Vogue's fashion editor at large- Andre Talley (sp?) He is a 6'6" black man who climbed to 355 pounds and has taken off 44 pounds with a sensible lifestyle change he learned at Duke University. I loved some of things he said. At one point he said, "I ate what I wanted and hoped for the best." (OMG, I could relate- wanting the scale to go down, but still eating the same old way.) Although he is one of the most influencial people in the fashion industry, he was amazingly real about his use of food to numb out- he talked about eating 1 or two sleeves of Oreos and bowls of Goldfish crackers.
I found him so enjoyable and real. Anyone else see this?
I thought it was good to hear a guy have the same issues as a woman....I don't hear that much.
Did anyone see Dr. Phil yesterday when his son got "into" a fat and ugly man's body? I felt for him, since I can totally relate!!! I tried explaining to my dh how I used to feel, but he just started giving me compliments. I wasn't fishing for compliments but trying to get him to understand what it used to be like...he just didn't get it.

You've got to realize that being fat and working at Vogue would be the ultimate sin -- most fashion magazines are horrible about even normal people and Vogue is one of the worst, in my opinion (at Vogue, plus size=size 8).

Yes, Sandy, I was captivated. I had never heard of him, but I really enjoyed the interview. I think that he honestly expressed what people feel when they eat unconsciously. It feels so innocent. You don't feel like you are doing anything morally wrong, and yet you are treated like a criminal in certain industries for choosing to eat unconsciously. I thought the woman who staged his intervention sounded like a total witch. Can you imagine, an intervention because you are fat? I mean, I get how unhealthy it is to be obese, but the way he described the meeting, it was like the van was waiting to take him to the fat farm. No wonder it didn't "work". You have to have your own reasons to take on your own health. No one can make you do it.
Wasn't it cute when Andre picked women out to stand up front because of their outfits? That must have been fun for those people, including the guy! Great sweater
