How are you starting your New Year?

Although I had only one bad slip up with pizza last weekend and the holidays were generally not out of control, I know that my calories were up a bit and that I was less clear about my habits and my actions.

Seems like others on the board might have had similar experiences.

So...the new year is here. Time to look at how you want to start out and continue on. I don't make resolutions, but I do try to lock in new habits and to focus on my good health and habits.

I rearranged and cleaned my sitting room so that I can more comfortably and easily take time for myslef each am. So far I am loving it. I also bought a small 25 cent calendar to lgo my weight each am. (Getting on the scale each am is a huge accountabilty necessity for me.)

Any things you are changing? Any patterns you want to break? Any habits you want to form?

Just when I thought I had a handle on this eating business... Wednesday it was McJunk, Thursday I OD'd on homemade WW blueberry muffins and Jaffa cakes. I have to make a conscious effort to get anything green on my plate, and it's not that I don't LIKE greens; I do, they just dropped off my radar screen all of a sudden! (I made a lovely veggie bisque, but that just didn't keep me on track...)

Ouch. What can I say. OUCH. I'll be happy to see the kids eat those last two muffins, and if they want some leftover Jaffa cakes then fine. As long as they're out of my reach... permanently.

Foodwise, I started my new year by eating junk food. That ended pretty quick because of the way it made me feel. My insides will welcome healthier and nicer food.

I've been referred to PT for my bad back and it looks like daily exercises will become the norm for me - not an easy thing given how lazy I am, but the pain was so bad earlier I'll just have to bite the bullet. So, new exercises are in my future.

As for everything else...hmm. Still thinking about how to get out of the bleahs. Still grateful for having lost weight and for not regaining any [yet].

Well, I am *really* ill. I don't know what I have done to myself, but bleah.

On a positive note, I've cleared my 'favorites' of places that are toxic to me on the 'net.

I'm just going to try to be more mindful of my health this year, and of my needs. Try to network with positive people, etc.

What used to amount to a resolution for the new year, has gone the way of the girdle. I am NOT making resolutions this year. I am planning and setting monthy challenges for myself. This month's is to exercise five days a week. Next month I will add something else to that challenge.
I know I can't set a resolution of losing weight, because it doesn't work. It's a diet mind set, and diets don't work. Changing lifestyles does.

It's never too late to get it right.

i want to do better at accepting myself just as i am. i want to stop the "restrictive" kind of thinking with regard to food. i want to be ok with the transition period in my life right now, and not beat myself up for not having largely ambitious plans (mostly because it is the wrong time to have ambitious plans). i want to be more loving towards people i love, and feel like i am giving support and advice from a place of kindness and love. i want to be more connected to God or some kind of spiritual center thru meditation and prayer and journaling.

generally, i want to face fears, chisling away at them inch by inch. as a lifetime goal, i want to live and make decisions from a position of strength and love, and not from fear and anxiety.

Whenever anyone has asked what my resolution is, I've been saying "Achieve job satisfaction." That means either finding a way to love my current job again, or finding a new one. Becoming a stay-at-home mom is still an option, too.

I have a couple of other semi-secret resolutions that I'm not saying out loud, mostly because they require too much explanation. I am resolving to make the Beck solution my way of life this year. Finally getting my eating habits under control will, I think, make so many of the other things I want to do easier. And I've recommitted to working out every day.

I'm off to a good start. I'm on plan so far today.

I started off the new year yesterday with a four mile run, a very clean meal with the family (thanks to Beck), and being down today below 200 yet again.

Today I made myself brave the cold & snow to hit the pool before catching up with my RD.

Tomorrow will be a nice long run in sunny, warm Florida. In shorts!!! (ie 3 layers less and no snow rated running shoes!)

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.

I'm really struggling to focus on goals in any part of my life right now so I'm just not going to sweat it. Who knows, maybe when I get back from my vacation next month it'll feel more like a new start. Regardless, I did just decide to try and get back in the habit of posting my food in the What's For Dinner thread. I'm not worrying about whether I actually eat on plan but making a plan and then having to report on it will help me clean things up at least a bit.

What I want to do this year has nothing to do with food or exercise.
I want do better managing my money. I want to find a part-time job but it will have to be during daylight hours since I can't drive after dark (cataracs).
I got a small tabletop "beginners" weaving loom for Christmas and I already know I want a larger "real" one but they cost.
I want to keep square dancing but I still get very out of breath at times. I worry that when I get out of class and start dancing out in public the speed will still be too fast for me.
