Okay, I'm not talking about chips ahoy. We just got some internet protection software on our computer and I am constantly getting cookie warnings on this website. I am a little internet naive, so could anyone explain why there are so many here and what they are for? Every time I try to do anything my computer tries to block 3 cookies.

Thanks, Kathy

Hi Schoolmom,

What Browser do you use? IE...Firefox...Netscape etc?

Within the options there should be under internet options, you should be able to control the "cookies" you run into.

Cookies also help load the page quicker next time you go to a site. Ever notice that the sites we go to often load quicker? That's because there is already a "map" (I'll call it that)....about that page...and lets it reload quicker.

You should also have an option on whether or not to be alerted if you go to certain websites. It all depends on your settings.

Let me know if you want a bit more help on that.

I know what cookies are but am not good at explaining it so I looked this up for you.
I know KD does not allow pop-up ads on her site.

"Cookies are a necessary evil at some sites. They store little chunks of information about you that the sites use to customize themselves to your preferences.

For example, you may have picked some color scheme that's pleasing to you. The site plants a cookie on your computer that tells it to switch to that scheme the next time you return to the site. Cookies also can hold things such as user names, information about your browser settings and so on. They may even tell the site what ads to show you or what sort of pop-up you may be likely to respond to.

Depending on your paranoia level, you may not care to have Web sites know such stuff. It doesn't hurt to kill those cookies, but it means you'll have to fill in info about yourself next time you visit."

Like having to log in every time you visit a site instead of having your computer "remember my password".

This is a much more in depth article about what they are and what they do.

Hope this helps you.
