Advice on a cake recipe...

My family wants to make a bunny cake. I am trying to keep it safe for my DS. I found a recipe that I like. It is also one my sister should think easterish enough. My question is this. Can you turn a bunt cake into a cake with out a hole in it? My sister found a form in the shape of a bunny.

Thanks!
Michelle

I made it on saturday. It is very rich and dense. It was yummy. A small piece was plenty.

Look for jellybean cake.

Thanks, michelle
That looks like my kind of decorating. Bake the cake. (Or buy a cake...) Spinkle with powder sugar. Dump bag of jelly beans around the cake.

A friend gave me the book, "Confessions of a Slacker Mom"... Eeker I'm just mad that I didn't think of it first and write the book myself. Smiler

All right you young 'uns…

It was in a magazine in the early 1970s. I made one. Instead of jelly beans I used gum drops to decorate the bow on the cake.

Here's a site with a photo:

Here's another site with better diagrams:

and finally, here's a completely different option:

When should I arrive to sample the results?

My Mom used to do the exact same thing. The recipe /idea must have been in some popular magazine back when. Smiler

My mom used 2 round cakes made from a boxed cake mix. One for the face, the other got cut into 3 pieces:

Make 2 curved cuts off of opposite sides so that you get 2 curved ears. Use the remaining piece as a bow tie for under the rabbit's "chin", it will fit perfectly, if you cut the ears the same curve as that of the uncut round cake.

She then used white frosting with coconut for fur, jelly beans for the bow tie, nose and eyes, and pink coconut for the insides of the ears, and either used black frosting or thin black or red licorice for the whiskers and smile.

Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.

I would think you could put your recipe into any kind of cake pan.

Here is how I make a bunny face, use three regular round cakes. Slice off the outer edges of two of them (as if you were trying to make them square. That will give you 4 pieces that look about like this "(" but with a flat edge. If you put the flat edges of two of them together you get what looks like a bunny ear but pointed on both ends. trim the bottom end to fit the curve of the whole cake layer where you want the ears to be and frost.
