I have decided that I'm finally ready to give up my daily dessert. I'm not going cold turkey but have decided to wean myself to every other day. On the "off days", I'll have extra fruit.

It's been a long time coming and I never thought I'd even want to get to this point but I'm ready : )

My goal is to be like Denise and just have special desserts once/week.

I never thought it would be possible but now is the time!

Thanks Denise Smiler

In all fairness (to moi), I never did think that fruit and frozen yogurt had the same calories or nutritional value. I may be blonde, but I'm not THAT blonde Smiler
The head-game for me was the habit that seemed so comfortable and happy for me. Getting to be thin and eat a frozen dessert was kind of dreamy, but I feel better now. It's not the first habit I've had to change and it won't be the last.

But stay away from my coffee.

Yeah... it is sort of like the head game of denial... (Not that I've ever been there or anything... Smiler) "Frozen yogurt has the same calories as fruit."
Smiler

Well, no... not really.

dh convinced himself the frozen yogurt for breakfast was healthy, since it is yogurt and all. He was having it with coffee cake.

Nothing like a little cake and ice cream every AM to pack on some pounds.

I think you still have to incorporate real desserts into your life, though. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!!!!

Just wanted to report that Project: Give up the Frozen Yogurt, Baby is going swimmingly Smiler And it's already showing! I'm down 3 pounds from Monday (which is probably a combination of factors, of which this is just one).

I am having much more fruit, and subbing fatfree vanilla yogurt-cheese (drained in the fridge for a few hours, it tastes like marscapone!) with fruit, drizzled honey and cinnamon. I think it was a real head-game for me, in answer to my original question. I managed to keep the sweet/creamy thing I like at the end of the day, and give up the not AS healthy component. It has been good to mix things up, as usual.

Thanks for the push, Brie Smiler

Bee,

If you have fruit/berries around you...something sweet that's so good..is you can get ff/nsa vanilla yogurt (I buy source yogurt)..and put the berries with that.

It's my favorite thing in the summertime!

You know, when I have either a grapefruit or banana (or the like) for breakfast, I actually end up getting 2 servings of fruit in for the meal. I never eat just 1/2 of a grapefruit or banana, I'd rather eat the whole piece. I don't care for half a piece of fruit that has been stored in the fridge.

On the fruit note...

I have been eating fruit each morning. I have had 1 serving most days and even two servings some days.

I want to increase, but for now am going to maintain this progress. Maintaining this over the spring will be great.

My veggies are always at least 4-5 servings per day- generally up to 6 servings each day.

Day 2 with no "dessert" accomplished : ) Another day filled with fruits and veggies and feeling very satisfied.

I'm especially proud of today as it was an incredibly stressful afternoon but I never once even thought about stress eating.

Yesterday I got in 5 servings of whole grains. Today should be the same. On my vegetarian days, it's even higher which according to that mayo clinic weight loss pyramid is more than I probably should be eating : )

I completely agree. You have to have a fruit or veggie at every meal and as a snack to fit them all in.

I don't want you getting light headed at the gym, or anything...

It is kind of amazing that when we are eating really healthy... it is almost hard to eat all that food - the fruits, the vegs, the whole grains, the lean proteins, the good fats...

They are so filling and it truly is hard to eat it all.

I know I do have to start early and often with the fruit at breakfast to eat it all.

I know, I know. I just didn't think that I could be satisfied without my little dessert.

I should have tried this long ago : )

If I stick to my meal plans this week I'll be gettingin 4 servings of fruit and 5 of veggies every day.

I really have to say that with all those fruits and veggies it was impossible not to feel satisfied.

I end up using a lot of froz vegs or bags of salad/carrots/etc. as I don't enjoy the washing and cutting of fruits and vegs very much.

I never thought I'd be able to add fruit to breakfast and cut back the grain by 1/2 but it turned out to be much easier than I expected. The fruit really does seem to fill me up and keep me satisfied.

Like I said, I can't believe that with all the quantity of food I ate today, I was at 1200 calories.

I find that we go through them quickly too. I keep frozen raspberries and raisins in the house.

I need to stop at the market at least 3 times a week to keep up with lettuces and berries.

Sometimes I am amazed at how much food we go through in general. I process and we eat A LOT of food each day. Like your family, we tend to eat more "bulk" than processed foods.

I have been making a BIG effort to eat at least 7 servings of fruit per week. (I get lots of veggies, but always fooled myself into thinking that I could save some of the fruit calories for my "treats" and more caloric indulgences.)

Eating even this minimal amount of fruit is helping me feel more satisfied and I am having fewer cravings.
My goal is to build up to 10 servings of fruit per week by this summer. I know I will need to cut back a bit on the "extras" and some of the grains, but I am feeling more and more willing to make the shift. Feeling better and more satisfied helps me feel more willing.

I also plugged into fitday today and without any effort at all, I'm at 1200 calories for the day. I forgot how filling fruits and veggies can be without adding alot of calories : )

Also helps that I didn't do any extra snacking today but frankly I didn't have any need to as I've been feeling so satisfied.
