Kathy,
Congrats on the 3 lbs! That's awesome. I just wanted to also congratulate you on realizing reinforcing these habits is as important as adding new ones. Especially since these are being effective! Smiler

Here is where I am doing my week four homework because I can't find the specific thread.

New behaviors:
1. I have been doing better with water. I haven't been perfect, but my overall pattern of water consumption has improved alot.
2. I've been doing better with grazing on unhealthy foods. It is in part because I have been really busy the last couple of weeks, but I have been doing less picking at unhealthy foods.
3. I have been working out more consistently. Last week wasn't great because of difficult circumstances. But other than that I have been getting to the gym more regularly. I feel that it has become a habit again.
4. I have lost 3 pounds so far. It is nice to have the scale moving in the right direction again.

I feel that I need to continue in the same path and reinforce these habits. I don't feel ready to tackle anything new yet. But that is ok. . .babysteps. I do want to start being more aware of evening snacking though. Once I am more aware of when and why I will start working on improving it.

I'm getting back with it a little this week. I'm on week 5 because I took last week off. I've at least managed to log my food every day, and next week will really focus in on my workouts again. This week I'm just focussing in on the food and plenty of "me time". I'm planning a trip to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's this weekend for some motivation and inspiration. I did this week's homework, and I have a shopping list for some new pans. I'll head to target as well because we don't have one around here.

I took a version of the chickpea salad from week 3 (since I'm still on week 3 Wink ) to a Super Bowl party and it was a relative hit, considering all the traditional super goodies that were there. The woman hosting a party is a fabulous cook and her husband cracked out the BBQ. Needless to say, I overdid it, but maybe not as much as I would have if I hadn't brought something healthy.

I am still using the new software I posted about and I am writing summary information in the journal.

I'm really excited because for once I'm getting everything thats been so difficult for me. In her first book and the daybook Chef Kathleen went over, how, if she really wants a treat, she makes sure she's earned it, or burns it off with extra exercise, that way she never skimps on the exercise. I'm actually doing that, and finding out that I really like the results.
I'm starting to see my body in the mirror again, and the scale is becoming a friend.

Hi Kimberly, I must have missed your original post. Welcome to our growing family. I bumped up the Member Introductions thread so you can get to know us.

2. do 1 mile (17laps) in 20 minutes (3miles per hour)

OK, I start week 3 again this week -- with my new tracking software I should have good info to put in my log. I feel like I have gotten a good jumpstart even though I haven't been super-diligent about writing in the book. I'd love to be at my goal weight in time for the bridesmaid's dress fittings for my sister's wedding.

Big Grin You know, KD, I am not much for journaling, and if I have to open a book early in the day and read something, I probably won't do it.
Just an idea for your next endeavor. I have, on my desk a flip calander. It is simply January through December, no year, so it can be used every year. It is small, about 3" by 4 inches and stands up. Each day I just flip the page over.
Anyway, mine is a scripture and a thought each day. Why not make one with a motivational quote and an encouraging thought or baby step for that day.
Then it is just standing there, ready to challenge me each day and encourage me to face whatever food issues lie before me.
I know it is a good idea to journal, but I have tried many times over the years and it is just something I don't stick with. I always look at my daily vibe though!!

I've been having a hard time actually taking the time to write in the journal. I am going back to week 3 next week. I am looking for ways to make my life make more sense right now. When I do that, I think a lot of this weight management stuff will get easier.

Thanks kd! Every time I came to the end of the week, all I saw was how much I fell short. I appreciate your encouraging us to look for the good!

Welcome to you Kimberly! If counting calories works for you, why not continue doing it? Lots of folks here on the board count calories. There is no right or wrong here, just finding what works for you![/QUOTE]

Bee,
Thank you for being one of the two people that replied to my post. I really appreciate it. Its been a while since I signed on and checked everything out, because I wanted to see how I did for the first few weeks without torturing myself for every bite. I started the journal (or daybook) on january 13 or so, and I'm down 15 lbs. I'm being a careful eater, but I'm not counting calories, or making myself think I'm on yet another "diet". I'm trying to think of it as a W.O.E Way of Eating. And that I'm retraining myself to measure and consider each thing that I prepare for myself and my family.

Thanks again.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site. Picked up the datebook a few weeks ago. I really need the structure and suggestions this book offers.
I'm 59 yrs. young. I've been following the DASH diet for about a year which helped control a couple of health issues.

My big problem is exercise. Today I got up a little earlier and before work did 10 min. of yoga. Hopefully through everyones positive thoughts I will stay motivated.

I've been writing down the foods. I tried the squash & onion soup and loved it. I made salmon tonight and plan on trying it in the salad. I think the receipe ideas are one of the best features of the datebook. I always have trouble planning menus. I noticed the receipe thread and I will definately take a peek.

I'm happy to have found such a supportive group.

Thank you KD. I have been giving myself C's looking at an A as a perfect week. It didn't really occur to me that losing 2 pounds during the first 2 weeks should probably constitute an A+, not a C just because I wrote things in the "wish I hadn't eaten" column. From now on, I am getting an automatic A just for writing in my book!

Even though I haven't been keeping up with the journal, it has inspired me to get cooking and I have tried a lot of new recipes. I am also starting to punch up my workouts and that feels good.

I got another new healthy cookbook -- it was sort of a surprise. Between that and KD's books and the magazines I get, I have no lack of recipes to try. We've been trying a new recipe every two or three days and we're both loving everything. Smiler
