Welcome, Paige!! You will find a wealth of information and support on this board. Feel free to post any questions you have and everyone will help as best they can.

Rest of Summer Goals:
1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week.
2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week.
3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were!
4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.

Hi!
I just bought the daybook today. I have promised myself this is the last "diet" product I am buying. My dream is too lose 20lbs, my realistic goal is 15lbs. It seemed easy enough, but has proven to be very difficult. I gave up on WW after trying their program 3 seperate times. I liked that it really taught portion control, but hated counting points and having to constantly type in recipes to get the points. (My dh teases me that we haven't had the same meal twice in 13 years of marriage, I love new recipes!). That left me with sometimes typing in 3 recipes a day! And constantly consumed with thoughts of food! What am I going to eat? What did I just eat? How many points is that again? Arrgghh!

So, short story long, here I am. Ready to relax and explore new recipes and spend time with my family after meals instead of logging in points.

Ok I just have to pop in and say.. I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF RIGHT NOW!! I woke up with a stiff elbow, so I was thinking "better not work out today" Then I thought I better not get off track, especially on my day off. So I figured I would do the WATP 2 mile, but skip the weights, I could always stop if it bothered me. Well I ended up doing the entire thing, with the weights, and I feel fine. I think the elbow was just stiff from sleeping funny last night. But I did not let it become an excuse to goof off all day. Major victory for me since I am the queen of excuses.

Unfortunately, it is gone for good. It was only on for three seasons (2001,2002,2003) and then in reruns until last year when FN did away with it completely.
The good news is that KD is going to be on PBS this summer. I will find that thread and bump it up for you.
You can still find the recipes from the show by putting "Cooking Thin" in the recipe search box on the FN website but be forewarned, the site is extremely sloooowwwww.

O.k folks here I go my first attempt to jump in feet first. It has been a year since my last post. One of the things that motivated me to jump back in was some deep thinking.
My result was that I deserve to give myself what I give away to others. Time is my biggest giveaway.
It was our sons 24th birthday so we went out to dinner a place of his choice and it was a buffet!!!! What a challenge. But I found that I stuck to the lunch fair and left only regreting too much salad dressing. Yipee
I am going to try and exercise this week and meal plan.
bye for now Theresa

Its Sunday night, time for me to get my goals together for the next week. I'll be on week 7 in the Daybook. I've written up a meal plan, with a grocery list to go with it. So my goals will be:

1. Stick to my meal plan and log it all.
2. WATP 2 mile, 4 times this week
3. Get in enough water every day.

I hear you about the work. Today I was very tempted to go out for lunch because I didn't want to take the time to cook. I made myself scrambled eggs (1 whole egg and 2 whites) and had some leftover couscous with basil and tomato and an orange. It took about 5 minutes to put this together, so I have to remember that the next time I feel lazy.

Never underestimate the importance of staying full. Fruits and veggies (esp. fresh) will give you lots of fiber and help keep you full. The more satisfied you feel, the less likely you will be to reach for something that isn't healthy for you.

Diana, your statement is right on target: eating healthfully does require work! But if you can look upon it positively -- i.e. enjoying trying new recipes or new foods; feeling good about what you're putting in your body, etc. -- it doesn't have to be drudgery.

And I couldn't agree more with Sheria's statement about fruits & veggies. I eat at least two veggies every meal, and it's the only thing that's kept me at my goal weight!

Keep hanging in there!

I would definitely give you a run for your money in the laziness department, Diana! Wink I am a terribly lazy person and, when I started my journey in 2003, I hated to cook. The thought of coming home and cooking dinner after work just made me go UGH! I was eating cereal pretty much every night for dinner...which was, at least, an improvement over fast food every night which I'd done in the past!

I put a lot of effort into my lunches that I cook on Mondays for the week--I use little or no processed food and lots of fresh veggies. But my weeknight dinners are quick n' dirty simple things...I work a 10+ hour day and I'm just not in the mood to put effort into a meal when I get home! I use things like canned beans, frozen wholegrain pizza crust, pre-cooked chicken strips, bag salad and frozen potstickers to make dinner easy to throw together and quick to cook. My dinners aren't nearly as healthy as my lunches but, since I know I will not take the time/trouble to make the kind of meal for dinner that I will for lunch, I have to adapt and find things that I'm willing to make!!

Also, never underestimate the importance of staying full. Fruits and veggies (esp. fresh) will give you lots of fiber and help keep you full. Drink your water, which will also help give you a feeling of fullness. The more satisfied you feel, the less likely you will be to reach for something that isn't healthy for you.

Hope that helps.
Sheri

I agree that eating is the tougher part of the equation for me too.

Where are you having the most trouble - home, work, car?

Having a "clean" environment saves me many days. If there isn't anything unhealthy to snack on, then I just can't.

If you can, post some of your specific challenges and I'm sure you'll be bombarded with responses.

Hang in there!

I haven't been on the board for awhile. I've been struggling. I have been to the gym faithfully to work out but my eating is "outa control". I'm not eating a lot but it is what I am choosing to eat. Why is it that to eat healthfully it requires so much work. That seems to be my biggest problem. I am lazy! It is so much easier (and tastier) to get junk food, sigh. Help! di

Way to go, Laurie! You might want to give some thought to joining us in the Accountability Journal thread, where we set our goals and post about how we're doing during the week/month. It's different from the Exercise Accountability thread which is just about exercise.

Kathy,
Congrats on the 3 lbs! That's awesome. I just wanted to also congratulate you on realizing reinforcing these habits is as important as adding new ones. Especially since these are being effective!

Peg

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I have had a challenging day and it was nice to "hear".

I am finding that working on my dissertation makes me hungry. Or, rather, that when I try to sit down and work on my dissertation, I suddenly feel an urge to snack. I think it's a particularly bad form of procrastination.
