We had the "Simply Steam" southwestern corn with fish the other night. It was good...though a little salty to my taste. The boyfriend (who complains about salty taste more than I do) didn't have any issues. He liked it. It has corn, bell peppers, and (I think) green chiles (though not many) in the bag, along with seasonings. It was good with the chile-seasoned fish and baked tortilla crisps.

It's very, very pretty and colorful. I'd buy it again, if it's on sale.

Mezzetta "TAMED" Jalapenos.

They are sliced and pickled and yummy and not very hot at all.

On the olive/pickle aisle... which in our Safeway isn't the Mexican Aisle.

Bob's Red Mill is one of my favorites too! Dawn, if you can't find it locally (our local grocery stores are carrying many of the BRM products), you can order it through http://azurestandard.com or Bob's Red Mill site (probably www.bobsredmill.com ) I get monthly deliveries from Azure Standard (we have a co-op with them here) and I know that they also ship via UPS, I have also ordered from BRM in the past, and had it shipped.

Blessings,

Lori

I'm trying another of the Green Giant Simply Steam line this week in my lunches--the baby peas with no sauce. It's just peas n' steam, baby. heh The package gave me 3 pretty good-sized portions so I got all 3 lunches out of one box, whereas when I did that seasoned mixture, I had to use 2 boxes. I thought the peas were delicious right from the box...I didn't even season them because the chicken dish I made was pretty highly seasoned as well as the roasted baby red-skinned potatoes so I wanted to be able to have a break from the seasoning.

I also found Simply Steam Sugar Snap Peas this time at the store, which I didn't see before.

Rest of Summer Goals:
1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week.
2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week.
3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were!
4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.

This may not be new to others but they are to me. I'd heard about them years ago at a WW meeting but never could find them. They are called Vita-Muffins. They are a little pricey and there are only 4 per package, and they are little. But, they have a good flavor and they are only 100 calories per muffin. I tried the chocolate ones, but they also had an Apple Bran flavor too. Even though I like them I don't know that I will buy them often. First because of the price and second, in like two or three bites, the muffin is gone. I'd rather eat something a little more filling.

OMG! I love Fage yogurt. It is Greek style yogurt that I have avoided for a long time becuase the calories and fat are far too high.

But... yesterday I was at Whole Foods and saw that Fage makes a plain yogurt called
Fage Total 0%
for the 150g container (5.30z) you get 80 calories and 0 grams fat. Ingredients are skim milk and live cultures.

OMG! This stuff is so creamy and yummy. I mixed 1 tea of honey in a container for dd and she loved it. Dh too.

The downfall is cost- I found it on sale at Whole Foods for $1.25 per container. Even at that price I am going to buy more tomorrow becuase we all love it so very much.

I don't know if I posted this or not (and I'm too lazy to look right now post-workout) but I have fallen in love with Japonica Rice. Its a black rice and Mahogany rice field blend that is absolutely delicious.

Its become a staple at my house (this coming from the woman who doesn't eat much rice at all)

I have been using Flatbread to make individual pizzas and chips with. I don't like the texture without baking them. When they are crisp I love them!

Tonight we had breakfast dinner and tried the Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Pancake Mix. We made it up into waffles. Yum! They were very tasty and filling. If I hadn't known they weren't white flour, I never would have guessed.

I like WW pasta and many whole grains, but I am not a fan of WW bread. I was pleased to find that these waffles were crisp and tasty.

Okay, here are the results of my first taste test:

Product I tried: Green Giant Simply Steam: Garden Vegetable Medley

What it included: Sugar snap peas, roasted potatoes and red bell peppers. I get the impression that some of the Simply Steam line have no seasoning but this one had "Seasoned" on the box. That turned out to be an herb sauce.

What I thought:

Ease of use: VERY cool and easy...open a box, pop the plastic pouch in the nuker and you have veggies in 3 or so minutes. Note: MICROWAVE ONLY!

Texture: I generally eat veggies cooked from fresh pretty close to 100% of the time and I tend to like my veggies on the al dente side. Even though I cooked these frozen veggies at the low end of the recommended cooking range, the bell peppers and some of the snap peas were overcooked for my taste (part of the problem is that there was little red pepper and the pieces were very small so they overcooked in the time the potatoes got cooked through).

Taste: Not over salty, which was the first concern, but there seemed to be a little sweetness in there somewhere that wasn't my favorite. Overall, pretty good, and that's coming from a picky eater who generally hates frozen dinners/veggies.

The numbers:

Serving size is 1 cup (each package is "about 2 servings)

Calories 50
Fat 0.5g
Zero transfat
Zero cholesterol
Sodium 280 mg
Carbs 11g
Fiber 1g
Sugars 3g
Protein 2g

Rest of Summer Goals:

Monterey Pasta Company

I love them! My Publix carries their stuff in the refrigerated section, right next to the more popular Bertolli's (is that the name?). They have raviolis that end up a side dish at least once a week...I spray a skillet with Pam and cook them until the outside is a little crunchy and they puff up, then flip them over and do the same. Maybe 7 minutes, tops, and it's a really filling side dish.

I don't think I've posted about this yet--but at our new Harris Teeter, I finally found a whole wheat fresh pasta (I used to eat a lot of fresh pasta "back then" and still prefer it to dried pasta). It's whole wheat tortellini by a company I'd never heard of. DOH! I just went to check the package and realized it went out in yesterday's trash. It's called something like Monterey Pasta Company. I like it a lot and a serving is 1 cup, which is a very satisfying serving. Had it for dinner last night with a basic marinara sauce and froze the rest in a Ziploc freezer bag and forgot to keep the nutrition information.

Also, becauase we had our first snow/ice storm last night, I am making my work lunches from what's in the fridge vs. going out shopping (even tho I hear the roads are okay at this point in the day). Those Simply Steam frozen veggies are going to come in handy today! So I'll report back after I've made them.

One of the best things I got after my surgery was from Caswell-Massey, a pretty old company that makes bath/body/face/skin products. I got a shea butter "package", with soap, body butter, and balm stick. The fragrance (honey almond) is heavenly--I almost expect to be sticky because the honey note is so spot-on. The extraneous ingredients are kept to a minimum, so I find this stuff incredibly soothing on my sensitive skin. Even down in this humidity, my skin gets very dry in cooler weather (when I lived up north, it actually cracked & bled), and this stuff feels so good. When I'm out, it's definitely something I'll feel okay spending my own money on.

That's what I'm talking about. I think Steph probably means that.

I will say though, I don't like the Island Teriyaki as well as the regular one.
