I just found a readily available natural lunch meat (without preservatives and a bunch of chemicals that you can't pronounce!). It is Hormel Naturals brand. Our local Albertson's had them on sale buy 1 get 1 free so I bought a package of the honey ham, and a package of the roasted turkey breast. They are very good, and I'm SOOOOO excited to finally be able to get thinly sliced lunchmeats that don't have all the chemicals that we want to avoid! Here's the website if you want more information Hormel Naturals I'm hoping that they will eventually come out with natural roast beef also! My absolute favorite sandwich is thinly sliced roast beef with a little bit of horseradish, a bit thick slice of tomato, red onion, sprouts and lettuce.....YUMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
Blessings,
Lori

For those who don't know, horchata is a cold rice- or nut-based beverage, spiced with cinnamon, found in Mexico and Central America.
It's my favorite "agua fresca". Other common flavors are coconut, tamarind, and jamaica (hibiscus).
Well I was perusing the frozen goodies in Walmart, and spied Helados Mexico popsicles, in the above flavors.
I grabbed the horchata variety and noted they were 85 calories (not too bd) and no fat.
I had one that night, and it was delish! Milky, cinnamony, and yummy.
I can't wait until we move to Phoenix and I can hit up the palenta cart for a tamarindo or spicy pickle popsicle!
It also inspired me to get a popsicle mold, so I can make my one unusual flavors at home.
I love Horchata. It is called Chicha in Venezuela. However, you have to be careful, because some chicha is fermented, and that stuff is gross. The popsicles sound cool. Dawn

Steph: I can't TELL you how many times I have roamed the aisles of my Giant grocery store looking for these WW cakes and have never been able to find them. But, last weekend, I went into the SuperFresh near my friends' house in Delaware, and there they were...all the varieties of WW snack cakes! I'm not a fan of lemon cake, but I got the carrot cake ones. I thought the taste of the cake was quite good and that they were pretty satisfying (for 1 point, esp.!) but the icing was really stiff and seemed stale. Maybe they WERE stale or maybe the icing is like that because it's lowfat or something. Do you recall your icing being that way? I looked at Giant again yesterday, now that I know what I'm looking for, and STILL couldn't find them. I'll have to try some other stores. I could kick myself for not buying another box before I left Rehoboth!

BrenauMom, I fixed the corn BirdsEye SteamFresh the other night and it was sooooo yummy!! I've not fixed the brocolli yet. I might have that for lunch one day but the corn is a keeper.

I have been meaning to look up this thread but keep forgetting. Thanks for doing it for me BirdsEye has a new product called "SteamFresh". It is frozen veggies that you put in the microwave (bag and all) for 4-5 minutes and it puffs up and steams the veggies. I was not crazy about the brocolli & cauliflowerk but then I don't care for them in big chunks anyway (I prefer them chopped tiny), so I am going to try the corn next. They also have peas, and mixed veggies (peas, carrots & corn).

Sheri, I saw the Kellogg's Complete Wheat Bran in Jamaica and thought of you. I have tried the Autumn Harvest Wheat and it is good. Dawn

As I posted a few months ago, my favorite cereal, Kellogg's Complete Wheat Bran, had been discontinued and I'd been trying a bunch of other wholegrain cereals to find one I liked as much, without much success. About a month ago, I found a Kashi cereal I'd never seen before--Autumn Wheat. It looks like spoon-size shredded wheat. The box description is "abundantly delicious organic whole wheat biscuits with a kiss of natural sweetness." I have loved shredded wheat since I was a kid, but have generally avoided buying it since I started eating healthy because I tend to put too much sugar on it. I figured if this came with a little sweetness, that may solve that problem (built-in portion control for the sweetness). I was a little put off by the "kiss of natural sweetness" of Autumn Wheat at first because I tend to dislike sweetened cereal and because the sweetening was an unusual taste to me. Whereas they use honey to add a hint of sweetness to their Heart to Heart cereal, this sweetener tasted more like a hint of maple syrup. According to the ingredients, all that's in the box is "Organic Whole Wheat, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Natural Flavor" so I guess what I'm tasting is the cane juice? Not sure. Anyhow, I have fallen in LOVE with this cereal (and barely even notice the sweetness anymore), so I wanted to pass it on. I can find it both in the cereal aisle of my Whole Foods and in the organic aisle of my regular grocery store. Anyone else tried something new lately?

I made Kd's Ribolita out of the blue book and used these tomatoes for the first time. I thought it was the best soup ever! Then I made another soup recipe with them and realized that it wasn't so much that the soup was better than all the rest, but that the tomatoes were.
They have them at Costco for slightly more than regular canned tomatoes. They are well worth the extra money.

I LOVE those tomatoes! I buy them through our co-op when they go on sale, but it is nice to know that I can get them through Costco now....will check that out next time I'm in there

When I did my first post-trip grocery shopping, I wasn't planning to buy any ice cream because I knew I'd gained some weight while I was gone. However, when I passed the ice cream freezer and saw that Haagen Dazs had a new lite flavor...and it was one of my favorite flavors of ice cream EVER...I had to try it. It's called Caramel Cone, which the carton describes as "caramel ice cream with a caramel swirl and waffle cone pieces with a chocolaty coating". OMG. A-ma-zing. It's a bit higher in fat than the Haagen Dazs Lite flavor I usually eat (at 8g per serving), but it incredible tasting and has great texture as well. Unfortunately, I've already determined that it won't be able to come into my house again any time soon because it's just too delectable. Ah well.
