I am having such a hard time staying away from the junk this morning. I have to work today and tell my supervisor that she has used up all of her sick time and is required to use her vacation time now. Our company doesn't allow you to "make up the hours" when you are on salary. You have a required work schedule. YIKES!! I hate this woman's mood swings. Last week she shoved an employee who told her she made a dentist appointment for next week.

Anyways I've cut myself a little slack, I'm allowing myself an egg and cheese bagel and coffee from Dunkin Donuts, as long as I stick to my hummous, whole grain crackers and salad for lunch. Dinner will be at home, so I'm sure I do fine then. Wish me luck, I'm afraid one of us will be leaving by the end of the day...

Oh, my gosh, Laurie! Your workplace sounds absolutely horrible -- that is just WAY too much stress to be putting on people.

As hard as it sounds, if what you have here isn't enough for human resources to take care of it, then there's something seriously wrong with your human resources people. I don't know what state you work in, but I don't know of any state where pushing another employee wouldn't be acceptable grounds for termination. That's a criminal offense, and committing a crime on the job is usually plenty of justification.

I'll be thinking good thoughts for you.

I'm glad it worked out better than you had thought. Good job on sticking to your plan too.

On a bright note, I stuck to my plan. I think I'll try and rely on planned stress eating after this. I had my one indulgence, and let it go. And since my egg sanwiches have just egg and cheese, its not a "worst case" food. I was able to stick pretty close to plan the rest of the day.

Thanks for the support,

Laurie

Good for you Laurie all around! Sounds like you handled the work situation like a pro AND stuck to your food plan too! Hip hip hip hooray!

Yep, I agree with everybody else.

I'd normally say "Hang in there". I know that you have been looking and I say, "Get out of there".

You need to contact human resourses or the equivilent in your company. If you are afraid of retaliation - you need a restraining order.

Keeping you in thoughts and prayers.

I also agree with Dawn. Shoving is NOT an appropriate reaction in any work place situation. I really hope that you are able to find a safer environment to work in soon!

Laurie, Dawn is completely correct. In fact, just this AM my son told me of a hitting incident at his work last night, and the person doing the hitting was promptly arrested for assault. A woman had walked up behind a male employee and startled him....he turned and hit her. Now, whether it really was a reaction or not, hitting, shoving, or any violence in the work place is not acceptable behavior. I agree
that it probably shouldn't be your job to tell your super. that she is out of time, that should come from a higher up....but if it's part of your job, just do it as matter-of-factly as you can...and then bow out of it. She can take it up with someone who gets paid for that sort of thing. You are just the messenger of the bad news. I am sorry that it has to wind up here, I've worked in volatile situations like that, and it makes work not a fun thing to do. Food-wise and YOU-wise you seem to be in control...that's good thing. Take care of you today!

Cathy

Laurie,

I am so sorry that you are going through something like this! Work in itself is not easy, but to have to go through stuff like this is even worse! I would first go to the manager like it was suggested before and if that does not work, then I would go to your state labor board...just a suggestion.

i pray that your day goes better.

First, you need to speak w/your DM or RM immediately. It is his or her responsibilty to tell your Manager she is out of time, not yours. Secondly, your DM or RM needs to be informed IMMEDIATELY of the physical violence in the work place. She/He also needs to be told, that since she/he is now aware of the situation, if he/she does nothing about it, he/she personally can be sued if it happens again.

Work place violence should not be tolerated under any condition, if it happens again, the police should be informed.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. My job is stressful, but not because my employer treats me badly.

Laurie,
I am sorry that you are going through this and that you feel particularly stressed today. It seems to me that your supervisor is irresponsible and that you are in a difficult postion having to tell her about company policy.

Your plan for today sounds good to me. Take care. remember to drink your water.

Laurie...I've said it before, but it saddens me that you have to work in this kind of environment. Work can be stressful enough in itself without having to work with people like your supervisor. Good luck having that talk with her. It's the company's rules, not yours, and hopefully she will understand that and not shoot the messenger (I know, not likely, eh?).

Any more developments on the job hunt front?
