Weight on 6/9 126.5
Weight today 127.0

Average weight the week of 6/13 127.5

Average weight 6/14-6/20 128.0

Average weight 6/21-6/26 129.9

Average weight 6/22-7/3 128.3

So scale isn’t going down THAT much… HOWEVER, I think that I am close to hitting 126.5 again, since I ate some really salty food yesterday and the scale was STILL down.

Since June 9th:

Lost 1.1 inches off my right thigh.

Lost .75 inches off my waist

Lost .25 inches off my hips (which I’m actually happy to keep those inches…)

My best guess (using the Naval Circumference method*) is that since 6/9 I’ve:

Gained 2.8 pounds of muscle.

Lost 2.6 pounds of fat.

That is my best guess...

Plan today is to come in at 1700-ish calories.

Oh, I know all that...

Mostly because I had the scale for a week... it was like an exciting new toy. Smiler

From the manufacturer:

Q: Are there optimal conditions for determining body fat percentage using Tanita's products?

A: Yes, there are:

Select a consistent time of day, and stick to it.

With an empty bladder

When normally hydrated

Unclean foot pads may interfere with conductivity.

Nylons interfere with conductivity. If it is absolutely necessary to measure in nylons, use a drop of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on the foot pads to act as a conductor.

Things that can affect hydration include:

• strenuous exercise

• recent food intake

• diuretics such as caffeine, alcohol, certain medications

Early morning is not recommended because the body is often dehydrated after a night's sleep. Once you have established your baseline, monitor body fat about twice a month. Checking body fat more frequently is not beneficial as changes occur slowly over time.

Goal: Focus. Eliminate mindless nibbles.

It is possible that my neighbors scale was/is funky.

I also REALLY played with the scale and weighed myself under EVERY condition possible. Morning, night, before pee-ing, after pee-ing, before exercise, after, etc, etc. I was just blown away by the very DIFFERENT fat percentage numbers. But after a week, I could see just getting on the thing every morning like a "normal" person... or twice a month or whatever.

One reviewer says that this tape measure seems to eliminate some human error... however, on my stomach... the hardest thing I have "controlling" is how tense or loose my stomach muscles are. Smiler

But I have this tape measure that I inherited with my grandma's sewing kit... and it seems to work fine... so I can't see spending $7 for the "better" one. But I might... if I can get free shipping. Smiler

Yikes! With my Tanita scale, I have never had anything close to that kind of variation.

I'm a Tanita scale owner too, Sheltie, and this has been my experience too. My body fat does not vary more than 1/2 to 1 percent day to day.

I love my Tanita and it, too, is an older and more basic model, but it allows 2 people to store their height/age plus has a "guest" button if someone other than those 2 people wants to weigh in.

1st Qtr. 2010 Goals:
1. Continue gym 3X week until it is a habit.
2. Read, write, sew or craft at least 30 mins. per day.
3. Regain control over eating > 8 p.m.

Yikes! With my Tanita scale, I have never had anything close to that kind of variation.

On June 15th I weighed 152.4#, and my body fat percentage was 21.8%. On July 1 I weighed 152.6#, and my body fat percentage was 21.7%.

I weigh at the same time day, and in accordance with accuracy rules provided by the manufacturer. (I only weigh myself on the 1st and 15th of the month.)

As you can see, I am making ZERO progress toward my goal of 145#. Smiler

BTW, I have weight records (Excel spreadsheet) going back to 2004, and I have never missed a single 1st/15th weigh date.

Goal: Focus. Eliminate mindless nibbles.

I have thought about it. But three things stop me. My current scale seems to be working fine, so it is hard to rationalize buying a new one. I house sat for a friend for a week, and used her body fat testing scale, and during the week I got body fat numbers from 35% to 15% and had NO IDEA what to do with those numbers. And finally, I probably need more information/numbers like more rocks in my head. Smiler

Besides, Tanita scales were used on Dr. Phil's Weight Loss Challenge, so they must be good. Smiler
These calipers http://www.amazon.com/Accu-Mea...ef=pd_bxgy_hpc_img_b are idiot proof and very easy to use AND recommended by the author of "Body for Life", so they MUST be accurate! Smiler

Since you are into numbers, you should consider getting a Tanita scale.

http://www.tanita.com/en/

When used at the same time of day under the same hydration conditions, they can track changes over time; and there is no human error. (Due to hydration error, they are better at tracking big changes than small ones.)

The advanced models claim to estimate all manner of different, exotic, things. I just have a basic model.

During my Big Weight Loss Period, I found it motivating to see my Body Fat Percentage go down with my weight. I started out (2004) at 32%, and am currently (upward maintenance drift) at 22%.

Goal: Focus. Eliminate mindless nibbles.

I had a really good day and stayed on plan through our neighborhood dinner party. I was at 1675 calories today which I'm thrilled with. I also got in 6 miles this morning.
