I'm going to set up Internet access and a phone to the new house. I don't have a TV at the moment, strongly considering not getting one, I would consider going with cable just for the Internet though.
We have DSL and love it. We used to have cable, but the cable in our area tends to go out a lot, and when the cable's out, cable internet is out.....our phones don't go out nearly as much.

Being that I am the Queen of Procrastination, I am still using dial-up. I bought a cable modem MONTHS ago (I mean MONTHS ago) and it is still in the box uninstalled. Until it's installed, I can't call the cable company to make an appointment to come hook me up to high-speed.
I am my own worst enemy sometimes!!!!!

We ditched BellSouth dial-up for a cable connection & like it much better. We have 8 (I think) e-mail addresses. The main one we use when we need to give out an address to register for something (most of the spam goes there). Then one for the family & friends, one for CT friends, etc, etc. My sister has On-Star on her cell phone for gps location and they can call 911 for you. I thought it was just on cars until she got it.

...well, I don't have a cell, while I have considered getting one, I don't want people calling me every hour of the day or night...
I just have a cheap pay-as-you-go cell phone, mostly for "emergency purposes". FYI, you can turn a cell phone off, and incoming calls go to a voice mail "answering machine". It will be nice when cell phone companies have their 911-location systems up and running.

We are using DSL through earthlink. The service is pretty good, but DH is a techie and was able to set everthing up just the way he wanted it. When this contract is up we are going to switch to cable internet, ditch our land line, and just have our cell phones, ditch our satalite tv, and have very basic tv, which is part of the deal. we are going to save about $50-$100 dollars a month. I think that is a good deal. We have had cable before, and if I had my choice between DSL and cable I would chose cable, it is much faster. Jennifer
Well, basically, I'm not a techie, nor do I play one on tv. I'm looking for whichever would have the best options in terms of being easy to use for a normal human.
I suppose this would mean dialup, but I'm tired of spending my life on the comp waiting for something to load. On the other hand, hi-speed does put you at greater risk for things like viruses, or so I hear.
We connect through our telephone companies DSL (we have SBC for phone service). We pay a flat fee for our telephone service each month, which includes unlimited long distance service. Because we have that service (which runs us $50 per month) we were able to get our DSL at a discount ($26.95 per month, which is only slightly higher than we were paying for dial-up). We have only had slight problems with our DSL, the most recent was last week when we had a power outage....the surge blew the line that our DSL runs through, and the phone company had to come out and replace it. We also run a wireless network through our DSL and it has been absolutely AWESOME!!!!! My dh is a real techie, and he LOVES all the toys that his employer provides for him
Blessings,
Lori

We didn't have a landline for the first 8 months or so. We both had a cellphone.
But then GF got sick of high cellphone bills. So she dumped hers and we got a landline (no long distance) and an answering machine.
Seems to be working fine so far. If we need to call long distance, we use my cellphone. Plus the kid always has access to a phone if he has an emergency.
Cable internet has worked just fine. We had some issues networking, but that was pretty much entirely related to the condition (OLD!) of the last computer I was trying to connect.

We use the cable company. We've had constant problems, though. Dh just installed a wireless network and we are having problems with that too... Our problems seem to be very specific to our situation- probably would not afflict you, Cate. P.S. We considered getting rid of our land line too as we each have a cell, but as of now the cells do not have gps hooked up to 911 service here. We will stick with the land line to keep 911.
