Recently finished:

The Known World by Edward P. Jones--A novel about the first African American slave owners that reads like a nonfiction historical account. There are some strong female characters and, while parts of the book are very difficult to read (from a humane perspective, not complexity), it is a good story overall.

A Light in the Window by Jan Karon--I'd heard a lot of good about Jan Karon over the years in my book chat. Picked up this book in the airport in June. While it definitely wasn't my usual cup of tea, I did enjoy it on some levels. If you know what the word "twee" means, that describes this book.

Recently started:

Forever by Pete Hamill--I've heard nothing but raves about this book for a year or more and I'm finally reading it. So far, it's okay but it's kind of in a boring place right now and I'm waiting for it to move into a different place.

Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich--While I think that the Stephanie Plum series is going downhill, I still can't seem to stop reading. I am not far enough in to make a call yet. Hoping it's better than #9.

There's something else I started at work the day before I went on vacation but I can't remember what it is.

I haven't been reading much lately, but I am in the process of rereading Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying".

I'm reading Holy Blood, Holy Grail. It's a nonfiction account of some of the history behind the DaVinci Code. It's very dry, academic reading but quite interesting.

Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.

I've been reading stuff for a class and knitting more than reading nonfiction.

After a few months of missing my library card... I finally replaced it. And guess what I found it today tucked in between some papers. Anyway, I have checked out a book called "Portion Teller". It's very interesting and telling....
