Trader Joe's bound for Norcross
Christine Van Dusen - Staff
Friday, May 12, 2006

Hey, Norcross --- looks like you're getting a Trader Joe's.

The beloved specialty grocer is in final lease negotiations for a spot at the Forum at Peachtree shopping center on Peachtree Parkway, according to people familiar with the situation.

No other details were available Thursday.

A spokeswoman from Trader Joe's, Alison Mochizuki, declined to comment.

The California-based company is notoriously secretive --- only reluctantly admitting plans to come to the Atlanta area at all --- and rarely releases information about store locations until the doors are nearly ready to open.

Trader Joe's is expected to open several locations in the market this year, including spots at Pinestraw Place in Marietta, Midtown Promenade on Monroe Drive and Sandy Springs Plaza on Roswell Road.

The shop at Pinestraw Place is expected to span 12,000 square feet.

The 39-year-old company has become a cult favorite --- offering quirky goods like lime-and-chili peanuts, frozen shrimp dumplings and airy cheese puffs that are both gourmet and low price --- and has more than 200 small markets across the country.

Yippy!!!!

I love the Forum. It has an "old world" vive. It is like a little main street with the shops facing each other across a long narrow parking lot with a little fountain in the "town square". During Christmas you can park in one place and take a horse & buggy ride from one end to the other, getting on and off at various stores. They have Belks, Linens & Things, Spa Sidel, Williams Sonoma, Victoria Secrets, Pier One, Old Navy, Talbots, Harry & Davids, and many more I can't remember. Along with several restaurants from swanky with wait staff in tuxes to sandwich shops.

Dd & I love to hang out at the Barnes & Noble.

They have one new building that appears to be finished but unoccupied and more major construction started just across the street from it last month.
