O.k. I started to wright down everthing I was eating and counting calories again starting two weeks ago Monday, starting weight was 126#'s weighted myself Monday ( 10/7)dropped 3 #'s) Now this morning, I got on the scale and it said 127# I can't believe I put on 4#'s overnight the only thing that I had yesterday that was salty was 1/4 cup of pickled herring with some of the liguid in a salad, and 1/4c of mozzerrala cheese on a pizza.
I have also noticed in the past few weeks, When I step on the scale daily, (morning) whatever the weight might be, and then maybe step on it again either an hour or so later, it either goes up or down a 1/2 to 1#.
I also weigh myself before I go to bed, and when I wake up, and there is usualy a difference of a 1/2# loss on the following morning, and then there are times, when I think the scale is wrong and get on it again (immeadiatly-sp ) and it might show a 1 to 2# loss,
Can someone figure this out for me, do you think it is my scale I don't know if this has anything to do with this, I have been trying to eat at least 1200 cal. a day, but there are some day's I am not hungry at all and might eat only 900-1000 cal.
P.S. I know you are suppose to "ONLY" weigh your self once p/w but this is a habit I have had since I started believe in 2003 or 2004 around the same time Brie, Sheria, and some of the others from the F/N forum

Thanks to all who answered: As far as me weighing myself the same time every day, I can't do that as I never get up the same time, my sleeping hours can go from 5-8 hrs per night (even though I am on a sleeping meds.)
After reading what everyone wrote, I realized it had to be the salty foods, as my rings were a little snug and feet a little swollen, then it dawned on me, did I take my water pills (sometimes I do forget,)so I went to check, and guess what I didn't,so that could have been part of the problem also.
Got on the scale today at 6:30 A.M (nude and after I went potty) and the scale read 124.5#, now if I can get back to the weight I want 120#'s which I figure should take about another month at a minimum of 1# per week.
Just have to remember no overly salted food and take my meds every day.......

In my experience... if you can get on your scale 5 times (all at the same time of day) and get 5 different numbers... it might be a sign that your scale (and/or battery) is going.
OTOH... food in your body, water retention, etc... all cause fluctuations.
I "gained" 1.5 lbs on Sunday night, and "lost" 3 lbs last night. It is indeed possible to retain or lose 3-4 lbs overnight. This is mostly fluid fluctuations.
My question is why do we drive ourselves nuts by weighing everyday or twice a day? We all know that weight fluctuates, but yet we still get upset or mildly frustrated when the scale doesn't show what our work has done. If that makes sense. I still go with the idea that ONCE a week, at the same time, same place, in the same clothes or no clothes is better for us emotionally, mentally and it gives us a better idea of what is going on weight-wise. Remembering that the number on the scale is JUST that a number we use the guage our efforts at losing weight, but we know that there are other ways to relate to our weight loss successes and our healthy lifestyles.
Please, put the scale under the bed, and use it only once a week...we are so much better than what that little machine says we are.

My weight fluctuates like that too. Usually I am up in the morning after a day of salty foods-even if it is not a lot of extra salt. I tend to retain water easily. I weigh myself only once a day, in the morning. If I don't I find that the scale creeps up because I am not conscious of where I am on a daily basis.

Summer Challenge Goals: 1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week 2) Plan weekly menus
I weigh myself every morning...but just in the morning It's generally best to pick one time when you can be basically the same...like first thing in the morning...and weigh then. I'm not sure what weighing more than once a day will do, other than make you a little bit crazy.
On, and off. I was up 2 lbs from Saturday to Sunday, and that was from eating one meal out, and eating it later than I normally do. So, it's okay. Not a big deal.
Something I've had to work really hard on is using the scale as one of several tools to gauge how I'm doing. If the scale goes up, my clothes feel uncomfortably tight, and I look puffy--then I can be pretty sure I'm actually gaining weight.
If the scale goes up, my clothes get looser, and my workouts go better, then the scale number still has to be taken into account, but not held as gospel.
I record my weight once a week, but weigh every day, in part to re-learn what different activities and foods will do. I know that I'll weigh a little more the day after a workout--maybe due to all the water I drink, maybe due to my body holding on to that water & other things to refuel & repair. I know that if I eat before 6pm, I'll weigh a little less the next morning.
In the morning, just after waking, is as close to a "control" as you can get, given that we're human
Challenge Goals: *10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week *Gym time twice a week *Socialize at least once every two weeks.
Weight fluctuations during the day are normal. Water retention can cause overnight "weight gain".
My feeling is that if you know that you are eating on plan and doing what you are supposed to, don't panic over a weight gain (especially after eating salty foods).
PS Be careful that you are meeting your nutritional needs when you drop below 1200 calories/day! : )
summer 7 challenge goals: - Meditate every day - Start the day with positive imagery and self talk Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
Everybody's weight goes up and down like that during the course of the day.
My scale also registers a different weight if I get on it several times in a row or if I come back a little later. I weigh every morning as soon as I get up but I only "count" what it says on "Weigh in Wednesday".
If you don't take in enough calories during the day your body holds onto the calories it already has and doesn't burn them as fast. I don't get hungry very often either and have to remind myself to have a snack whether I "feel the need to eat" or not.
And a small part of it could also be your scale. It will not read properly if it is on a cushioned surface like carpet. It needs to be on a hard surface like tile or hardwood. Sometimes even a vinyl floor is too soft if it is cushioned. Or, if it is digital, it could need a new battery.
1. do 4 laps on walking track without "resting" 2. do 1 mile (17laps) in 20 minutes (3miles per hour)
