I am making a big effort to broaden my food choices. Last weekend I tried an Indian chicken dish loaded with flavor- ginger, corriander, garlic, lime and more.

This week as you plan food, think about a new dish you'd like to try. If not a new dish, how about a vegetable or fruit that you've ignored in the produce aisle? If you are eating out a lot, think about a dish that you could order to lighten things up a bit.
Let's post our ideas and food finds.

I am adding some baby, sweet peppers to my pasta primavera tonight. I also get to use asparagus from my garden.

I'm trying a new lower fat mac/cheese recipe from Eating Thin for Life.

It is exciting/stressful to try a new recipe when dinner is for 4 different families!

I'm always trying new food, I love to try new things. Last week I tried a new type of fish at a restaurant (can't remember the name) and I bought Asian Pears, which I had never had before.

I also made Sole last week, which I had never done, I have had it in restaurants, but had never cooked it.

I bought whole wheat pasta today, along with basa filets (fish), and tried squash last night. I also bought cauliflower with the intention of making a pasta primavera this week with numerous kinds of veggies in it. I bought a new spice, mirin. Okay, it's not a spice, but it is new in my pantry.

I've purchased some portabella mushrooms. I'm not sure how i want to cook them yet, but that will definitely be my "new food" for the week.

Any suggestions?

Laurie

I sat down yesterday with some new (and not-so-new) cookbooks, determined to find 5 new dishes for next week (I work at home, so I certainly understand that not everyone cooks 5 or more dinners a week).

The plans are:
Chicken Corn Chowder w/ Sweet Peppers (from a new-to-me book, 1001 Low-Fat Soups & Stews)

Chicken w/ Quick Citrus Pan Gravy (from one of KD's books)

Cajun Pot Roast (from a slow-cooker book)

Dijon Chicken Salad (from a gazillion-ways-to-do-chicken book)

Meat Loaf (from one of KD's books again)

Hopefully they'll all turn out well. . .I showed them to the boyfriend, who said "oooOOOoOOhhHH that sounds good!" at the Chicken w/ Quick Citrus Pan Gravy Smiler
