Have you tried Freecycling? I LOVE it! I found out about the freecycle website several months ago and have listed a few things on it, and dh is in the process of cleaning out our storage unit, so I'm getting rid of more stuff. I figured I'd list it on our local freecycle group and it is being claimed VERY quickly! I hope that everyone actually comes and picks up everything that they've claimed Smiler

Since I know a lot of the folks here use the Flylady system, and are working on decluttering, I thought I'd share this with you all Smiler

I would only do this if you believe that your neighbors would be ok with it. I live in an older well established neighborhood, and my neighbors would have a cow if I did this. But all neighborhoods and neighbors are different. I have several friends that do this, and have never had problems with their neighbors, but we live in a neighborhood with a lot of retired folks, and they'd just have a real problem with this!

Cathy,

Our area didn't have a freecycle until about 2 months ago, and now it is one of the more active groups in CA (or so we've been told). It only takes one person to start it, and freecycle will help you advertise. A lot of the local tv and radio stations have been doing little blips about it, and both of the local groups (one in my county, and another in an adjoining county) have had TONS of people sign up. I just got rid of a bunch of stuff through freecycle, and I didn't have to haul it anywhere! Everyone has come to pick it up. In the past 2 days I've listed 12 things, and all but 3 of them have been claimed already. All of them will be picked up by Friday evening (including a large piece of furniture).

Blessings,

Lori

Cathy,

Two ideas that I have are:

1.) Is there a children's museum close to you that might be able to use the parts for hands-on opportunities.

2.) What about offering them on eBay - doesn't have to be much, but you might someone who would be interested.

The freecycle might be your best bet - one man's junk...

I am looking for a place to give computer parts, monitors, keyboards, cpu's etc. Everyonce in awhile a city about 200 miles south of us has a recycle day....but that's a long way to take these things, and I have many. I have "geeks" in the house who collect and reassmble computers, but, don't think what to do with the remaining parts. Does anyone have numbers or places in the SD area to drop these off; or places that might take them?

Lori,

I have known about this for months, but just signed up yesterday. Today I came home to 85 e-mails - mostly from freecycle postings!

I wasn't expecting that. I'll have to be checking the e-mail more often, I guess. I'm hoping I'll be able to take care of some of the stuff I've cleaned out.

Lori,
Many people in and around Madsion use it. I just cleared out boxes of stuff and thought about it, but felt an immediate need to get rid of the stuff and took it to Goodwill.
