I have a soft spot for the needs of residents of Pine Ridge Reservation in SD. This is one of the poorest counties in our country. There is a group of individuals who work continuously with non-profit groups on the reservation to supply needs for various things. They currently have a campaign going with the court advocates group that works with abused children where they are trying to find 2 donors per state to donate $100 each by the end of the year. Could you spread the word or consider donating yourself? Very few states have both donors but even if your state of residence does have 2, you can be an additional donor or you can choose another state.
Peg, I live in SD and have known about Pine Ridge for a very long time. My grandmother in Chicago used to help organize a clothing drive for them during the Christmas time. This IS definitely a very underdeveloped country within our country. They are on the border between SD and Neb. The reservation is a dry county and Neb is willing to sell alcohol to the Indians who will drive or walk to their small town about 10miles away for booze. The parents want to raise their children to see hope, but in this country there isn't much of it. The people who are running the list of organizations are fighting a battle within our state and country just to stay alive and keep their lives moving upwards, but like many wars it is a tough one.
My only plea would be that you make sure that the money you send, or items you send get to the right people inside of these organizations. So often, too often, they get to people who sell them for $$ and the ones who need them don't get them. On the reservation, it is a soverign country and the US has little to do with them. That is what the Natives want....but it's hard to have needs and not take the help. So organizations who are willing to provide support, encouragement and supplies are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
It's never too late to get it right.

Peggy, Does the donner have to be an individual or can it be an organization?
I just joined a service organization. Our national philanthropic is St. Jude's Hospital, but we can have other projectst too. If our chapter can donate I bet I can get them to do that. Two of our members are on the State board too and can possibly get anothe chapter to donate too.
