From the StarTribune:

"Post's Alpha-Bits, previously available in a sugar-frosted version and one with marshmallow bits, now is available only in a new whole-grain formulation that contains no sugar at all. And unlike most other reduced-sugar products, it doesn't contain any no-calorie sweeteners either: It's simply not sweetened. That means it's got even less than the 1 gram of sugar per serving in General Mills' Cheerios, the cereal that has had a lock on the toddler healthful-finger-food market.

The box even names Cheerios, calling out "Rich in whole grain like Cheerios." Smaller type reveals that it's not quite as rich: A 30-gram serving contains 23 grams of whole grain; it says that a serving of Cheerios contains about 28 grams of whole grain."

That's awesome news for moms that don't want to feed their kids all that sugar....and it's fun for kids...I think it's a great idea..about time.

We had them in our house when I was a kid. I was the honeycomb girl..my brother was the alpha-bits guy...what great memories. Dad had cornflakes... but we liked flavour (mainly sugar when you're a kid huh?).

I gotta go buy some just for old times sake Smiler.

I had alpha bits as a kid... I never really liked them. They always went stale after they were opened more than a day it seemed.

I think Cheerios and Alpha-Bits are both General Mills cereals. I am not sure why they would have such similar marketing strategies.

I don't remember Alpha-Bits having a lot of sugar when I was a kid. We just always had Cheerios instead, because when we had ABs, we'd want to spell words instead of just eating our breakfast.

Smiler Alpha Bits has changed.......hmmmmm. For me, Alpha Bits are synonymous with Michael Jackson. I loved them both in the 70's (remember the Jackson 5 used to sing the Alpha Bits song on the commercial?). Over time they have both changed and now I don't like either. Times sure do change!!
