1. What is one thing you have really been procrastinating?
This week, I downloaded and installed more than three years (yes years) of Windows security updates. With a dial-up modem, it took hours, and hours and hours, and...; particularly since the downloads kept failing and locking up.
I am now going to regularly check IE's Tools / Windows Update. On my system, this works better than the automatic background downloads.

YAY! Federal and State taxes done using TurboTax in a very short time today and they have been electronically filed. All I have to do now is go back in tomorrow and confirm that they have been accepted. YAY!

Something I have been procrastinating? Well I think that would have to be getting a game plan on my healthy ways.
I guess I feel like I am going to fail. Or be this way forever. I want to so bad. I try but I seem to be hitting a brick wall or I think I am eating well but then when I add up calories it is very not good for me.
I am going to write out a menu for next week and that is all I am going to eat on that list. And see how that goes.

1. I had been procrastinating making some doctor's appointments (just routine checkups).
2. I put it off because dealing with the one doctor's office is always a pain -- I get put on hold forever and hate going there. Last time the doctor kept me waiting in a freezing room for over an hour and then the exam took 5 minutes. I want to change doctors but I haven't taken the time to do so. I will probably make the switch before it's time for next year's checkup.
3. I called both doctors today and have appointments.
4. It feels good to have that checked off the to-do list and makes me wonder why I took so long to get it done.

I had been putting off making an adjustment to my cable subscription. First I was trying to figure out what to do about my high-speed internet that I wanted but then AOL worked out something with Qwest that gave me DSL for the same price as my AOL was going to be (with their new rate increase). This was really good news because that rate was guaranteed for a year and I didn't have to redo all my email stuff. But then that sort of made the decision about cable vs. local line (I had sort of decided whichever wasn't tied to the high speed had to go or get substantially reduced).
Well, in a spur of the moment decision, I went in to the offices at lunch time, asked about my options (and discovered they just had another rate increase I hadn't seen on a bill yet!!!) and reduced my subscription from a $45/mo package down to a $14/mo basic package. I had been dragging my feet because I've been sort of afraid it would 'hurt' but I've been sort of on a cable tv fast since the olympics marathon tv watching and I don't miss it. I'm sure there will be times I will and if it becomes too hard I can always turn it back on but I want to try this for a while. Don't need to be parked in front of the tv in the evening anyway!

PS) I am happy to say that this year, taxes were not something I procrastinated. I am one of the ones who loans the govt too much money (I own my own business and it used to work out closer but my business has dwindled too much. This year I'm going to have some other untaxed income (my new roomie) so I'm just leaving it alone but I realize I need to do something if I find myself in the same place next year). Anyway, this is a big accomplishment because last year I put it off until August because I knew I had money coming back. I loaned it to them for an extra interest free 6 mos. DOH!

Ok, I dropped off my tax stuff at the accountants and we talked about my owing $$. I don't think I mentioned that with my one job I am paid as an independent contractor and am supposed to have paid quarterly and did not. The accountant told me not to worry, whatever interest or penalty due on the unpaid quarterlies will be very low and I probably won't end up owing as much as I thought. I feel so relieved and can now enjoy my weekend knowing that I talked to him and he reassured me it isn't so bad. I will be budgeting tax payments into my monthly bills for this year so I don't have to go through this again. Dawn, Thanks for the advice-I have heard before that you should break even, no paying in or getting a refund. And it is true, the money people are getting as a refund is basically a no interest loan for the government and unfortunately if you don't pay them quarterly they penalize you. But I appreciate your advice-thanks again! Jill
I guess your situation is a little different than most. I'm glad the accountant eased your nerves though.

Summer Challenge Goals: 1) Walk 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week 2) Plan weekly menus
1. What is one thing you have really been procrastinating?
Committing to a week long trip to see my sister in China
2. Do you know why you haven't taken care of whatever it is you've been avoiding?
The hassel (I have to get a passport, then deal with getting a travel visa, and book a flight, buy a backpack for my gear).
But's that really just BS. My big problem is that I HATE flying, and I would have to take a very long flight to (and then from) China alone.
(after writing that down, the mild "I can wait for lunch" hunger I've been feeling became churning "I've got to eat right now!!!" hunger, and I found myself in the kitchen slathering Earth Balance on a HUGE slice of Irish soda bread. Stress eating at it's best, huh? I cut the hunk of bread in two and threw half out. Stomach is still demanding it's tithe, but at least I can cut in down to snack size.)
3. Make a plan for how you will get said procrastination taken care of.
Like Nike says, just do it. I went to Social Security this week to change the name on my SS card to my married name in the first step to getting a passport. Lil sis and I will talk early next week to decide when I should come to visit.
I don't know if I can get a flying partner. A few of her college friends are also planning to visit her, but she doesn't think any of them are laid back enough to leave the main cities nad venture into deeper China (where no one speaks English), so she wants me to come alone and travel the lesser known areas with her.
4. Come back later and post how you feel now that it is done!!
Without a doubt I will be posting here after my visit, but it's a few months off yet.
Fall goals: 1. Bike 40-50 miles a week 2. Prepare new garden bed for next season 3. Heal my back

What is one thing you have really been procrastinating? Swimming everyday.
2. Do you know why you haven't taken care of whatever it is you've been avoiding? It's a hard story for most to understand...I hesitate to put it here, because last time, I got lambasted for even saying it. The reason is I am my son's transportation to school in the AM. We have to share cars and to make sure that he gets there, I have to take him to his car and then go swimming. He has no other way to get to school or his car, no buses, no walking, (it's only 7 miles away) we have no public transportation in Aberdeen. If I don't get him there, leave without him, he has skipped his first class.... I hate getting dressed three times a day just to swim, and have another life besides this....so I haven't made it a priority. Like most mom's my kids come first.
3. Make a plan for how you will get said procrastination taken care of. The plan has been made, thankfully, sonny boys goes to school now at 8:45; I drop him off at his car, walk in and swim. If not, that plan, plan B is to swim before I pick up DH at work...since the pool is at his work...yes I will change clothes three times, but it's a small price to pay. Finally figured that part out.
4. Come back later and post how you feel now that it is done!!
Have a great weekend all. No need to reply to my situation....
It's never too late to get it right.

I have been procrasinating dealing with getting my car fixed and dealing with the insurance company after getting rear ended several months ago.
I really have no idea why, other than that it is something that has to be done during business hours and I don't have enough personal or vacation time to have been dealing with it.
I'm going to just have to take some personal time and do it, and go to the dentist and to the doctor and to the OB/GYN.

Actually Jill, you have done the right thing. If you are getting a refund, you want to turn in your taxes early, to get the money back. If you owe, you should wait until the last minute so as to hold onto your money as long as you can and earn interest on it.
Also, contrary to what most people do, you don't really want a refund at the end of the tax season. If you are getting a refund it means that you have been letting the government use your money for free, while you could have had to keep in saving and earn money from it yourself. (Obviously, ideally you want to be as close to even as possible.)
I thought I'd throw that out there, just so maybe you would have a different perspective on it and not fear it so much.
Even though it sounds awful, owing taxes isn't a bad thing, it means you didn't give the government an interest free loan throughout the year.

1. What is one thing you have really been procrastinating? Getting my taxes done-I am going to owe money this year, and it could be a pretty significant amount so I have been totally avoiding going to my accountant. I'm not talking back taxes or anything illegal, just that there was not enough taken out of my checks.
2. Do you know why you haven't taken care of whatever it is you've been avoiding? Fear would be the main reason. I am so nervous to see that number that I have just let it go but the anxiety I have felt over this is just not worth, I really should have gotten it done in February, right after I received all my tax info. 3. Make a plan for how you will get said procrastination taken care of. I made an appt. with my accountant for 12:00 this afternoon and have put all my tax documents in a nicely organized folder so I can just hand it over to him and wait for him to finish them. 4. Come back later and post how you feel now that it is done!!
Have a great weekend!! Jill
