So I got through what I expected to be a terrible ordeal with no major injuries. A prelim exam defense goes like this: You have already written several essays to show what you've learned as a Ph.D. student. Then your committee (four professors, three of which you choose, one is chosen for you) grill you on those essays and anything else from your coursework.

It sounds horrible doesn't it? But it was actually fine. I started things off right by bringing homemade pumpkin bread and juice to the defense (I was advised to offer a food bribe to soften up the committee by my fellow students). Not too many people ate any but at least they saw I was trying. Smiler

So, I PASSED! Smiler Smiler Smiler

I have to write my dissertation (huge book-length paper) before I can be Dr. TriGirl. Smiler This is just one milestone on the journey, but it's a good one. Thanks for the cheers!
