Last night I spent with my brother at the hospital. He attempted suicide. He is OK physically, but still such trouble and pain.
Please keep him in your best thoughts, wishes and prayers.
I am ok- about to take a walk and in touch with lots of good support. I am not sure how much I'll post in the next few days, but will check in when I can

Thanks, D for the thoughts and suggestions. I think it is a good idea- takes little times and might do some good.

Sandy, when I was diagnosed and had my first bout of treatment, a friend purchased this workbook for me.

I found it easy, in the sense that it was uncomplicated, but also very helpful.

I'll also mention that the "gifts" that remain foremost in my mind from that time were the cards that I received in the mail--even from my roommate and people who only lived a block or two away. Something about the written word and knowing that people had taken time to think of me was so touching and so important to me.

So if you think of it, I'd highly recommend a little card, sent through the mail. It's amazing, when you feel so terrible, what the smallest thoughtful gesture can mean Smiler

You & yours remain in my thoughts.

D

Thanks again for the overwhelming support. I am much better today and have the day to take care of some job search stuff. I took a great walk this AM.
My brother talked with dh (he is in the mental health field) and dh shared about resources and stuff that might support him. In the end, though, my brother makes all the choices. I so much hope and pray for his happiness.

I am sending good thoughts to you and yours. I am very sorry to hear this. I have been in his shoes, and while this might be the cure all for everyone, I needed lots of love, kindness, and ROUTINE to get me back on track. Having a set routine (along with love from many great people) kept my mind from wandering to the bad places.

I hope to hear good news about your brother, soon.

Thanks, everyone for the kind support. I am doing my best to be support and kind and to maintian my life too. There is help available for my brother, but I do not know if he'll accept it- this is way painful for him- past years of horrible stuff to walk through in order to get some relief.

I bought myself some stunning yarn to make 2 small scarves as gifts- something positve and beatiful.

My condolences, and best wishes to your brother for a timely physical and psychological recovery.

It's obviously no cure all, but here is Mayo Clinic: "Exercise eases symptoms of anxiety and depression". Increased exercise certainly has helped to improve my state of mind.

My heart goes out to your brother, you are right he is in a lot of pain, and is very lucky to have a sister who will stand by him.. So many of my clients have family members who desert them at a time like this. Stay well for him, and give him a prayerful kiss for me.

It's never too late to get it right.

Your brother is very lucky to have someone as caring as you in his life, and I hope you're able to take a little time to reflect on the goodness and hope your love is bound to bring to him right now.

I'll keep your family in my thoughts, Sandy.

I am so sad to hear this. I have also been there w/my depression and my suicidal thoughts. I am glad to hear that he is fine physically. Now you just have to work on why he got there and how to help him mentally and emotionally, but I am sure you are already working on that. If you need any support while you go through this I am here to offer any assistance I can. Like I said I have also been there.
