WARNING: vent on

This week is starting pretty rotten for me. Went to my truck, just to see this:

Someone had shot my back window. I don't have glass coverage, so it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to replace.

I was so upset, that when I stopped to get gas, and cleaned my front window, I drove off with the hose hanging out and ripped it off (luckily I only went maybe 4 feet). Which I'm going to have to pay for. Plus, I felt like a total dumba$$.

I rolled into work late, so I skipped my workout. I just bawled at my desk. It's 9:30am and I haven't eaten yet. But there's banana bread in the kitchen... which I loooove.

Today sucks.

rant off.

Hey thanks Tina!

No new developments, and the week did get better. Still no news from the guy with the replacement window though. Mad

Also, I noticed that my apt complex replaced all the shot-out lightbulbs with compact flourescents. Maybe they're harder to break. Confused

Glad you found a window, and glad you reported the problem to the police. If some kids have been goofing off with a BB gun, better that they get caught at it and maybe get a good scare. It's not good to let people get away with little stuff... You might consider starting a block watch to keep petty vandalism from turning into more serious problems.

My windshield got hit by a little tiny rock when I was driving -- the car was new and it still made a pretty good crack. I got it heat-treated in the hopes that it wouldn't spiderweb. Several years later and so far it's still OK.

Hey Sheri,

I could find no indictation that it was personal, other than only my window got hit. If I pissed someone off, I have no idea as to who or how. But you never know.

I did find it strange when my gas got stolen, that my vehicle was chosen -- since I have a locking fuel door and an alarm. There were easier targets available.

I have a theory as to how this happened: the kid who was been breaking the lightbulbs in the car park area has been shooting them out with a BB gun. Sometime he misses. Probably when the BBs hit other cars, nothing really happens. But when a BB meets glass that is 17 years old (like my back window) it shatters.

Alternately, the kid or kids were goofing around, and wanted to see if they could hit the "o" in my domain name. The hole is about a half inch outside the O:

And yeah, none of this nonsense ever happened to me in the high country. But I expected as much -- just part of city-living.

In other news, I think I found a used window to replace mine. Hopefully I'll be able to get it this weekend sometime.

Have you had any indication that the bullet was personal? That is, that you personally were targeted vs. it being just a random act of a drunk or an accident?

Serena,

I might suggest that you do check with your insurance company about your window.

Once when I was tutoring, I came out to find the back window of the minivan broken out. It was covered.

I'm our block watch captain and it's really important to document anything like this so the police know where the problems are.

I did this morning. Amazingly enough, you can file them online!

I wasn't going to. But someone stole gas out of my tank in July, then this. So I want to start documenting, in case more happens.

Plus we've been having lots of vandalism at our apartments lately -- broken lights and such. Maybe they'll start patrolling it more.

UGH! So sorry you're having a bad Monday Grrlscout. I had one of those last week, except mine started on Friday and finished on Monday...then started on Wednesday and finished on Thurs.

I'm frustrated today with school issues with DS, but nothing on the level of the day you're having.

I'm reading a book right now, and there's a quote that said "It all started with a bad hair day, and it went down hill from there." Sounds appropos to your day.
