Yesterday was just a nasty day. Doctor day with my son. Blood tests, ill moods, not feeling well, scared. You know. By the end of it all, you feel so wiped out after caring for your child then trying to get on with the rest of your day and your child UNDERSTANDABLY is in a bad mood and you can't seem to get anything done. Well, after the dishes were done after dinner last night, I looked at my husband and said I need a few minutes to myself. I got my Beth Moore book and made myself a cup of tea! I NEVER do that! I am not a tea drinker, but I bought some this past week because I know some of you wind down with a nice cup of tea at the end of your days. So I had 2 girl scout thin mint cookies with a cup of Plantation Mint tea sitting on the couch with my book. (I'm definitely not a reader either!) What a nice change to the end of my day. I would consider it a fantastic change in my life if I would read more often and stop watching the mindless tv. I want to become a reader and learn to take time out for meself like I did last night on a regular basis. Thanks for the inspiration guys!

I haven't read (or bought yet, for that matter) Get Out of that Pit yet, BUT I was at the Living Proof Live event in Fresno, CA that that book was inspired by! That weekend with Beth and the "praise team" was incredible,
I'm soooooo jealous!!!!!! I hope to be doing a study of hers in the fall.

That weekend with Beth and the "praise team" was incredible, and Travis Cottrell wrote a song specifically based on Psalm 40. I sing it around the house all the time! I can't wait to read the book, and be reminded of the weekend
Speaking of Beth Moore, we are starting her "Beloved Disciple" study on the 17th....I can't wait! She is also redoing "A Woman's Heart: God's Dwelling Place" and it is due to be released on 6/1, and then in September they are releasing her brand new "Psalms of Ascent" study. I can't wait....lots of great studies to do in the near future
Blessings,
Lori

That is totally what my son reads. Science (mostly) and other non-fiction. In fact, his teachers were saying we need to get him to read more chapter books. (Frankly if he is reading, I don't see why it matters that much. I'd much rather have him read, than to push him to read something he's not interested in, and have him not want to read. Seriously, if he can read a book with words like pachycephalosaurus, does he REALLY need to read "The Bearenstein Bears" chapter books?)
Right now, he's back into dinosaurs. The cool thing is, he is reading the dinosaur books by himself now, instead of me having to read them to him like I did when he was between 2 and 4.

I was incredibly sad the day that my son, who was probably 12 at the time, decided he didn't want me to read to him anymore. We had read most of the Harry Potter and Brian Jacques books that way (up to that time.)
He doesn't always read at night, but I'm tickled when he does. Strangely (or not), he's a big science reader. Not sci-fi, science. I read nearly every night at bedtime, too, and every day at lunch (different books). Sometimes, like last night, I am so exhausted that I don't read at all, but I usually read at least a few pages, typically 10-20 minutes.
I have a very active imagination so I have to read stuff like Deaver (my favorite mystery/thriller author) at lunch and save calmer stuff for bedtime.
Personal Healthy Habits Challenge - 10/1 to 12/31/08: 1. Exercise: Get back to consistently working out 3-5 X week. 2. Food: Get back to consistently preparing healthy lunches for the week with increased veg servings. 3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.

Unless I am ill, I read every night. I cannot fall asleep without reading. If I am really tired, I may only read a couple of pages, but I still have to read something.
Typically though, I read between 30 and 60 minutes.

We all have reading time before bed here! We put everyone to bed 20-45 minutes before lights out (including dh and I) and we read during that time.

Lori

Challenge Goals: *10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week *Gym time twice a week *Socialize at least once every two weeks.
So dh and I save those for nights that we can put the kids to bed early and watch that show and then something after it that makes me laugh and forget the "stress" from the show. "24" is that way....Alias was too.
I had to give up 24 although it does have it's draw. My sister has all the seasons of Alias on dvd....i might just have to borrow them. I noticed House want scheduled on TIVO so it must not be on...probably a good thing.

I'm waiting for my free copy of Believing God from the Billy Graham ministry (they offer a free book or resource each month....I order their free resources each month, and if it's something I can't use, I give it to someone that can/will). I LOVED that study...it was very healing for me!

Thank you MaryJo! I have never seen those before, and I visit her website every few weeks! I did have the opportunity though to sign up to pray for her during her trip to Israel next week for taping the newest bible study. I can't wait to do that one this summer! Our church is awesome about ordering the new studies for our ladies as soon as they know they are coming out
Blessings,
Lori

But maybe if i listened to that 3 min clip i'd be better off than having the coffee. I do love Beth Moore. I did a Biblestudy group of hers a few years ago. Wonderful. Another book i'm reading is Calm my Anxious heart by Linda Dillow. i've been tryign to read a chapter each morning...about 15 min worth of reading. A bit of a perspective changer as well. You know on Tueday nights lots of times I watch House. I'm addicted (perhaps because of my allergy issues) but it always cranks me up- not in a good way. Maybe tonight I'll read vs. watching the show. (I'll still TIVO it mind you- but I'll wait and watch it during the day LOL.)
Calm My Anxious Heart is on my wishlist over at CBD.
I am that way (about tv shows) with some shows that I'm just not willing to give up, but have to watch earlier in the day, not in the evenings. So dh and I save those for nights that we can put the kids to bed early and watch that show and then something after it that makes me laugh and forget the "stress" from the show. "24" is that way....Alias was too. They are such high tension shows that I get wound up. Can't watch right before bedtime if I want a good night's sleep!
Blessings,
Lori

That is so funny Amy, because I had to quit watching 24 for that reason. I would get so wound up that I couldn't get to sleep. I LOVE House, but it doesn't crank me up. FYI, I don't think House has a new episode tonight.
